Hi, I have a Renault Clio MarkII(05 reg) and keep seeing the report on Watchdog about the bonnets flying up. Am really worried and don't know what to do to prevent it happening. Does anyone else own one of these or had any experience of this happening?

I have a 51 reg clio and it happened to me. I contacted my local dealer to ask about it and they said there was no recall. The bonnet coming up did £2500 worth of damageto my car and luckily I managed to pull over without hitting anything. If you get your car dealer serviced then speak to them. I'm sure there's something on Watchdogs web page saying they'll replace the bonnet catch free of charge as a goodwill gesture.

From a car related website.

Renault has reacted to media reports that customers of the Clio II (the previous-generation model) have had problems with the bonnet.

Apparently, in some cases the bonnet has opened while the car has been in motion. Having liaised with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), Renault now says that there is "no design or construction defect" in the bonnet catch mechanism, but that there may be an issue if it has not been properly maintained.

Renault is therefore writing to all Clio II customers, inviting them to have the mechanism checked at their local dealership. If there is a problem it will be corrected at no cost to the car's owner.

If your car is an 05, it should be okay but ask the dealer to check the catch.
