My computer is 2 years old and has had to be taken back to the factory settings 4 times now. I was previously using avg antivirus but thought this time would buy the top product of Norton. It's bloody useless in fact the virus thing I have now has actually blocked me gaining access to norton in favour of me buying there product. I can't seem to shift whatever it is am in the middle of downloading avg again to see if that can detect whatever it is and get rid.
Pop ups to buy antivirus things keep popping up with lots of yur system is infected buy this product to solve problem. I can't even access Norton it just comes up error I'm fuming
Anybody know what i can do to have a normal functioning computer again?

Try uninstalling Norton and retry.
dp say's that Norton is crap though.
Have you got fire wall on ?
scan with anti-spyware eg adaware or spybot.

yacketyblah · 23/03/2007 21:44

there's a free spyware detector that we use at work called spybot search and destroy. It seems to work ok at work but I don't have it at home so couldn't absolutely guarantee it will work. As far as I know it is the only one that's actually free to download and use. www.spybot.info

Is mcafee a decent security product?

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 23/03/2007 22:01

Dp says yeah.
he also said that if you haven't already got firewall ,you should get it.

Upsadaisy · 23/03/2007 22:21

pelvicfloornomore & dp Checked firewall at first look it is highlighted green and on but doublechecked in the security settings and its turned off so what the and grrrhhhhhh!!!

Spybot detected 40 nasty things but wanted money to clean them. i'm trying Avg again after that I may try mcafee...there advertising at half price on mumsnet which would be handy.

Just going to see if I can get my money back from norton cheeky beggars.

AVG has found upto 27 infected things upto now....do you know if I should just leave them quarantined or should I remove them aswell?

Spybot is a free download you shouldn't have to pay for it.

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 23/03/2007 22:25

dp says to leave them in quarrentine.
