My DH is starting a new job in Halifax W Yorkshire soon so we are selling up and moving down there. We are hoping to go there this weekend to have a look around but we have been looking on the internet at various houses and schools and have come across the area of Gomersal. Not sure if it is a village or town. Does anyone have any info on the area or any recommendations for a nice village with a good school.
Thanks

its a big village - nice place. Easy commute to Halifax

Birkenshaw and Drighlington v similar and on the same main route into Halifax.

Sorry, don't know about schools in Gomersal. We used to live in Drighlington and DD went to hte primary school there - was ok, but it has changed a lot now (merged with junior school) so I can't really comment.

I think Yorkiegirl is in genearl area, so I'll bump thijs in case she's about!

its a beautiful part of the world, but also some v peculiar, roysten vasy type places (and people) so watch out.

you might also want to think about long term - your DH's job may not always be in Halifax so you might want to think about access to motorways to give options for leeds/manchester.

is he working for the halifax/HBOS?

Gomersall is more towards Huddersfield which is about 20 minutes away.
There's a lovely little village just outside Halifax called Lightcliffe which is really handy for the town and also for the M62/Leeds and Bradford. It has a nice junior school and it's easy to get about from there.
There's also a lovely village called Hebden Bridge on the other side which is a bit more arty-farty and happy but very pretty and friendly.
Rastrick is also nice and the schools are good and property prices fairly reasonable.
I'm from round there so feel free to keep asking questions or CAT me if you want x

PS: Also agree with the kitten on some of the weird places round there!
