Bin lorry at 6:00am every week

Its not our bin lorry - but a commercial one that comes to the shop a few doors down. Every Thurs morning at 6:00am. Its sooooo noisy as it revs a motor up to lift the 2 industrial wheelie bins. It wakes me up every time. When we first came here it wasn't that early but its been like it for a year now.

I went into the shop and asked them to speak to the bin people - they refused to help and said its nothing to do with them. I tried rining the bin company up and their phone doesn't seem to work. So 3 months ago I emailed them and got no response and nothings changed.

Is there some sort of law that says businesses have to be quiet between certain hours in a residential area?? Any idea what I can do next.

I know how you feel as the bin lorry which clears the rubbish from the school 4 doors down from us comes between 6.20 and 6.30 and quite often wakes us. Sounds as if your problem is worse than ours. I would speak to your local Council .. the company doing the collections will be working on their behalf and will have to follow certain rules. I am sure there are rules about what times they can operate and not disturbing residential areas too early. They will certainly be able to advise you. Good luck.

Does this help at all? here

i also belive there is some law regarding noise levels between 11am and 7pm - but my google skills haven't produced anything exact as yet

You need to speak to your local Environmental Health Office. They will know the local guidelines and/or by-laws.

If they agree that the noise level is sufficient to cause nuisance they can force the waste disposal company to change the collection time. If the company then fails to comply, they risk losing their Waste Haulage licence.
