I am going to my brothers graduation next week. Just wondering if it's the norm to be dressed very smart for theses things?
Never been to one before, if anyone has any good suggestions for a present for him please share!
cheers mumsnetters

My university graduation was pretty smart. Lots of hats and suits. People basically dressed as if they were going to a wedding. hth - have fun!

I would agree that they are IME generally smart. Men in suits or trousers /blazers; women dressed in similar to weddings. Hats optional but again plenty wearing them.

Present ideas? Not sure - what is he intending to do now he has finished. Dh and I both were given posh pens, etc.

Well I've got to sit through 15 graduations in 5 days next week, the dress code is pretty smart, would echo muddha's commenst about dressing as if for a wedding.

As for presents, most Unis (ours included) sell plenty of stuff from cufflinks down to presentation box things for the certificates

definetely smart, my mother wore a very nice summer suit and hat, my stepfather looked very smart in his suit and waistcoat...very much like weddings...don't know about presents but keepsakes, pens, and things spring to mind...hope you enjoy yourselves

We're going to ds2's graduation next week - definitely smart clothes. Hmmm, methinks I shall have to go shopping!

Do I really have to give him a present as well?? He's cost us an arm and a leg over the last four years!!
