I haven't seen my beautiful cat for about 72 hours. He made himself scarce coz my father-in-law was visiting with his dog. But fil has gone now and cat no where to be seen. I have put notes with pictures of him through about 40 letter boxes and made some little posters to stick on lampposts. I've walked round the block rattling a box of cat biscuits. Is there anything else I can do? I'm so scared.

i can't think of anything else you could do really-maybe just make sure there is someone at home so when he comes back theres someone there. (if that's possible).

i'm sure he will come back, is he microchipped?

boudicca · 07/07/2004 11:49

Dear Hatter, you must be so upset, but cats are known for their ability to sulk and bear a grudge!I'm sure he'll come home just when it suits him,do you know if any of your neighbours have been feeding him?sometime 'outside' cats have quite a few homes and as it's been rainy he's probably found a nica dry, comfy place to retreat to.

my cat went missing about 6 weeks after I had started letting her out as a kitten - I was frantic! Anyway, I had given up as a week went by and then about 4am one morning she came crashing on to my bed, covered in burz and bits of grass and stinking. Try not to worry, I am sure he will come back when he realises the coast is clear. You have done everything else you could, is he chipped? Have you phoned local vets and animal rescue places?

Hope you find him, hatter. My cat went missing a couple of times and I was distraught, but he always came back; longest absence about 3 days.

Put signs up in the local shops and supermarkets - and if there is a bigger supermarket further away, there as well. That's how our neighbours found thier cat, who had been missing ofr 6 weeks (scared off by the arrival of our cats perhaps - and he was found very close to where we used to live! ).

And it was the furthest away, "big", Safeway where the poster was seen and responded to.

Sympathies, Hatter, it's horrid when a pet goes missing. Do try looking a bit further afield than you think he may have gone. Your cat may have wandered out of his familiar territory and not know how to get back home. One of our cats did that and was found much further away than we reckoned she could walk (was very old). A friend's cat also turned up a good way away from home. Btw, when we found our cat she put her little 'arms' out for me to pick her up, just like a baby - it was so sweet! Hope puss turns up asap.

thank you all. Guess who I found in the garage this morning? (Having got up at 6.30 am to deliver some more notes) All sweetness and "feed me". Nothing changed then. He hadn't been there all the time btw - there's a cat flap into the garage. So missing for 4 days then, stayed missing for 2 days after dog left. Usually he seems to know when the dog has left and re-appears within hours. Anyway, as a result of this, dh has registered him on some website: not exactly sure of the details, but they send you an id tag of some sort and if he goes missing again they phone round all the local vets and animal shelters for you. Thanks for the support. I;m off to give him a big cuddle

Really glad your cat is back hatter. Just wondered, would your FIL cope if you asked him if he could leave the dog at home next time? Cats are very territorial and having a strange dog on their turf is very threatening. A rather stupid friend of my mother's once turned up to visit with three dogs without warning us or asking if it was OK. Our cats were completely traumatised, went up into the attic and didn't come out for 24 hours.
Think my cat feels much the same way about ds, unfortunately .
