Advice, PLEASE!!!! Re- moving house...

We are supposed to be moving, hoping to exchange tomorrow at the latest.
We have to have 4 days between exchange and completion, for building society.
Our vendors' solicitors have taken a very long time to do anything, and often seem to not to things until they are hounded by our solicitors. And the estate agents are useless too.
Well, apparently the contracts were sent to vendors yesterday, should have received them today, to be signed and returned to solicitors for exchange tomorrow. I am not sure if I believe them.

I have managed to get the vendors' phone no. Is it unethical of me to approach them to find out if they have received them, etc?

Sorry for rambling. Thanks for help.

PS I am due to give birth soon, hence my need to move asap!!

Mainly to say thinking of you!

Doesn't sound that unethical to me - but what about your solicitor phoning theirs and getting him/her to confirm?

Good luck.......

I phoned the people whose house we were buying all the time anyway to chase things up myself (I was pregnant at the time as well!), maybe you could call them on a pretence about something else and casually ask about the forms at the same time.

Our solicitor has called them WRT so many other things, and never seems to get an honest reply, or else he leaves a message and they don't return the call.

agree with twiglett, you've got nothing to lose. good luck. our situations are quite similar, aren't they? don't know about you but i am never moving in late pg again - or ever if it comes to that

good luck with the chasing!

My midwife when I was pg with dd said you would not believe the amount of people who are moving in the last weeks of pregnancy, its one of the most stressful things you can do - are we all mad??

I moved in on the Fri, dd arrived on the Weds AND she was 10 days late

Why did they post them to your vendor? why did they not go in to the sols to sign? Your agents are powerless at this stage, all they can do is call purchasers and vendors to see if things are progressing, this is the stage the sols should be in control, after all it is they who set the dates and agree on exchange and completion! I would make that telephone call or go round personally to make a final check of Services, make the appointment through your agent, when there ask them directly.

Goodness, did it all go ok, OO?

I am due end of July, DD was 5 wks early, so I feel this one may be too.

What annoys me is that these people are being paid for providing a service which they don't seem to do.

I have just tried calling, no answer!!

MI, that is exactly my worry. I thought it was normal to go to sols to sign and have them witnessed, then exchanged. This is why I wonder if this is another brush off.

Ring your agents get them to call the vendors if no reply ask them to keep trying until they have an answer, if your sols do it your bill will be bigger. But do get another appointment to check the services out, you never know.

I just wanted to let you know that it's not uncommon for people to deal with their solicitors via post and phone only, now. With the house we just bought, the solicitor sent us the relevant papers which we signed, witnessed by a friend. On this occasion we did return the papers to the solicitor by hand to speed things up, but were really only expected to post them. It's not necessarily a cause for concern! (Though I have great sympathy, I'm due at the end of August, and we've only the central heating, double glazing etc to install first!)
