we keep making the WRONG decisions in life

not always, just recently. Latest saga is job trouble. Dh id being made redundant end of july as company is closing. We moved here only 2 months ago for his job on relocation money, I may add because he was on a very good 5 year contract. It was rumoured some people may be facing redundancy but he was assured before the move it wasnt him. You can imagine evryones shock, not just dh's that the whole company was closing. He was offered transfer to 2 other branches (wont say where in case some of your husbands work at this particular site !) but dh is just not happy with the company and wouldnt feel safe there anyway. He has had 10 interviews in the past 2-3 weeks, and second interviews on alot of jobs. He is waiting answers for a few that would involve a commute but we wouldnt have to move again.

Trouble is he has been offered a very good position but it would mean relocating AGAIN and we have only just moved. Part of me says to him wait for something closer to here and another says well we havent settled yet and at least the mortgage will get paid. Also its a bit of a case of 'once bitten twice shy' iykwim. He is the main breadwinner so everything depends on his wage.

What to do? and dont laugh we feel crap about our situation, we must be the unluckiest people just lately!!

Fio2 · 05/07/2004 17:26

dd is going to start school in september so is only young and she has special needs so wouldnt really notice tbh. I have been unimpressed with SN provision in kent anyway

Blimey Fiona, you poor thing. I'm so sorry about all this, what bad timing. It seems to me that the single thing that would make the decision for me (if I was you) would be how good the SN provision is in Tewkesbury or wherever. As you've said, you haven't been very impressed by Kent, and my impression from what you've said is that it's not at all well coordinated. Is there any way you can find out how good it would be where you'll be moving to if you go? As you say, you haven't really settled yet and although I would imagine the thought of miving again must be appalling it would be worth it if your dh got a good job and your dd's needs were met, wouldn't it?

Big hugs, anyway.

tamum · 05/07/2004 17:37

No, you're right, Cirencester's very close so that sounds quite promising. I used to live round there when I was little, it is lovely (as everyone keeps saying!)

tamum · 05/07/2004 17:38

Oooh, my old school friend lives in Yeovil! Tewkesbury's nicer though.

it does have 5 acres though, and a swimming pool and I think a tennis court.... although I thought it had 10 bedrooms not 7

Fio2 · 05/07/2004 17:44

Jampot that far too cheap for the likes of moi!

Fio2 · 05/07/2004 17:44

I can imagine dh's face if it looks at the address aswell!

OP posts:
jampot · 05/07/2004 17:45

well yes it is quite a lot to live up to....

jampot · 05/07/2004 17:47

seriously though - it's a lovely part of Tewkesbury and down the road there are "normal" houses also there are some lovely villages around there...

Fio2 · 05/07/2004 17:52

The other option is not to sell this house at all. Either rent it out as bedsits or split into 2 flats and rent out. Or alternatively rent out as a holiday let. Decisions decisions!!

agy · 05/07/2004 18:04

Don't want to put a downer on it, but is it likely there would be other jobs available in this area if say your dh didn't like working for this company? Which area is likely to be richer in job vacancies? Tewkesbury does sound nice though.

Kittypickle · 05/07/2004 18:05

Poor you Fio, after all you went through getting moved in the first place. I think Teweksbury is nice, much better than Yeovil. We bought a house that was already split into two flats and ended up not staying there for very long for various reasons, so we've let it out. After a few minor teething problems at the beginning, it is going pretty well - we did try letting the rooms in the upstairs flat seperately as that was more lucrative, but it was really hard work and not worth it.
