Right, we are watching Tikkabilla and they are making a (particularly poor) island scene...

Following on from this DP and I ended up in a discussion about Sticky-back plastic/sellotape..

DP thinks that on Blue Peter when they said Sticky-back plastic they meant sellotape and they couldn't use the name sellotape because of that brand name

My stance is that sTicky-back plastic is thos sheets of plastic (type stuff) that you peel the back off and it is sticky and that STICKY-TAPE is what they said to refer to sellotape (or any generic sticky tape)

so please.. who's right??

he's wrong isn't he??

(ps thanks - also he was sat behind me pulling me up on the sentence where I was putting forward his arguement)

blondehelen · 10/03/2007 08:52

agree with you. Like fablon. Sellotape is sticky tape

sassy · 10/03/2007 08:53

BOth right.

Blue Peter did say "STB" when they meant sellotape for trademark reasons. Ususally STB means what you describe.

lulumama · 10/03/2007 08:53

you are right , as always , MOH !!

nearlythree · 10/03/2007 08:56

You are right, but BP did describe sellotape as SBP too, which always threw me as I never knew what they meant - stupid BBC rules about 'advertising' which they totally ignore these days.

MascaraOHara · 10/03/2007 08:58

you're right and i KNOW this because a. I have much experience of both the products and
b. MIL used to work for the legal firm who sued EVERYBODY who used the word 'sellotape' when they meant a generic sticky tape product. MIL was a secretary so has typed many letters on this issue. Would your dp like her phone number for confirmation?

MascaraOHara · 10/03/2007 09:08

PMSL... he's so funny,l he;s gone off to work now to clean bricks lol mumbling about how I should google to find a better source lmao.
