Puff the Magic Dragon!!!!

Don't think she understood it properly.

I did try and explain that mummy cries when she hears this song.

A more accurate description would be that mummy sobs uncontrollably and has to be helped to bed.

WHOEVER THOUGHT THIS WAS A SUITABLE SONG FOR CHILDREN???? (or anyone?)

misdee, over here

He gets going and actually sings the song at about 1 min and 25 secs

moondog · 09/03/2007 20:51

Oh I am not disputing you-just surprised.

How about 'Nobody's child' about the little blind kid at the orphanage that noone will have?

'I'm nobody's child
I'm nobody's child
I'm like a flower
Just growing wild
No mummy's kisses
No daddy's smiles
Nobody wants me
I'm nobody's child'

Flamesparrow · 09/03/2007 20:52

I have got better with puff... DH had the bright idea of putting it on a bedtime CD for DD when she was tiny and she loves "the dragon song" so I had to get over it and be able to sing it.

It settles both of mine when they are upset

WelshBoris · 09/03/2007 20:53

Tell you what song gets me,

Happy Birthday.

So poignant

PandaG · 09/03/2007 20:53

So glad I am not the only one with 2 Little boys, I won't feel so daft now the next time I hear it and bawl. And Cali, I can't even bear to read the lyrics, I know just reading them will set me off!

moondog · 09/03/2007 20:54

lol
Don't bloody ruin the only time I have ever been sentimental on MN.

Spidermama · 09/03/2007 20:55

Ouch Two Little Boys hurts so badly.

Another one is, He's My Brother.

I actually broke up just as I was typing the 'th' in brother there.

I'd better leave this thread before I get too maudlin. And I haven't even started on the wine yet.

I may yet be back for some cathartic singing.

Flamesparrow · 09/03/2007 20:56
  • 2 little boys only gets me when I see/hear it...
moondog · 09/03/2007 20:57

Do you mean 'He aint heavy,he's my brother' Spider??

Oh my God yes.
I have this on my iPod and when it comes on at the gym,am sorely tempted to assume foetal position by the Stairmaster.

beckybrastraps · 09/03/2007 20:58

We were driving through the Borders once, and all we could get on the radio was Borders FM (or some such local station), and honestly, it was just one monumentally depressing song after another. 'Seasons in the sun', 'Tell Laura I love her', 'Nobody's Child'. We eneded up laughing, rather hysterically it has to be said, as each new tearjerker was introduced. Reckon the DJ must have been having a bit of a bad day.

Spidermama · 09/03/2007 20:58

Ye > es Moondog.

MascaraOHara · 09/03/2007 20:58

oh dear this definitely wasn't a good thread to stumble across in my current state of mind

dp coming round soon

beckybrastraps · 09/03/2007 20:59

Oh, and Ebony Eyes - forgot that one...

Seriously - an hour of misery...

WelshBoris · 09/03/2007 20:59

Oh, alright if we're all baring our souls

Guess thats why they call it the Blues makes me sob buckets

And Will Young "think I better leave right now"

Danced to it with DDs father on a Saturday night, him with his hand on my pregnany belly.

On the Sunday found out he was cheating on me

moondog · 09/03/2007 20:59

'No burden is he'

'His welfare is my concern'

Particularly poignant after a long day dealing with severely disables children as part of my job as a salt for people with special needs.

Spidermama · 09/03/2007 21:00

MascaraOH it might be just what you need to get it all our before he arrives. Have a good old wail then wash your face, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again.

Danced to Will or Elton?

Try 'Old Man's shoes' by Elton (I bloody love 70s Elton-a genius)
Had it on permanently when dd was born.
Oh my God,I'm off.......

MrsPhilipGlenister · 09/03/2007 21:01

Has anyone read The Sea Thing Child? DS2 and I sob in each other's arms when we read it as his bedtime story!

MrsSpoon · 09/03/2007 21:01

Blimey this is a sad thread!

The song that gets me every time is Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven.
