I have a voucher to use for £60 at Jo Malone and want to get some perfume. I'd like to use it online rather than schlap up to the store though so will be going on description and recommendations from you guys.

I've had and loved Lime Basil and Manderin for years now but fancy a change. What would you advise from their perfume range?

The ones I think that sound lovely are:

Nectarine Blossom & Honey
Orange Blossom
Grapefruit
Honeysuckle & Jasmine
French Lime Blossom
Pomegranate Noir
Vintage Gardenia
Red Roses

Jo Malone

I know it's not in your list, but Vetyver is lovely. Have you tried asking them to send you some samples? Just the paper ones.

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 12:08

Actually Vatyver does sound nice. I was tending more towards the light floral fragrances with summer coming up though, but actually am a bit tempted. It does sound good enough to eat!

What a superb idea re them sending the paper samples. You are a genius!

grrr.. I was supposed to be taking a friend to Jo Malone today for her to choose a birthday pressie. It helps I have a friend who works there so had guaranteed us the free hand massages you can get when you go in. Unforetunately my friend's daughter has chicken pox and I have a stomach bug so we are both stuck at home. grrrr.

To answer your question, I too
have had lime basil and mandarin for a whiel but have also had grapefruit. I was given some red roses bath oil and its v. old fashioned IYKWIM but lovely in a floral way .

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 12:22

Yes the small child in me likes the idea of red roses from the days I used to make my own perfume with rosepetals and water in the back garden!

I need to keep having them bought for me at every opportunity so I can have my own collection of everything that appeals so there is one for every mood.

OP posts:
wheelybug · 08/03/2007 12:26

Yes, it is exactly like that .

Apparently (so says my friend in the know) the newer scents are a bit more 'commercial' now that JM is owned by Estee Lauder and not as nice. I haven't been in for ages - I was looking forward to trying all the scents to choose a new one.

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 12:29

Oh my Gos, owned by Estee lauder and gone commercial, oh noooooooooooooo GUTTED.

Gone right off Jo Malone instantly

Orange Blossom, Its heavenly

wheelybug · 08/03/2007 12:30

Quite. Sad isn't it, but the way of the world today I think... sigh

mummycan · 08/03/2007 12:31

My favourite is Black Cafe Vetyver - lovely!

rowan1971 · 08/03/2007 12:33

Oh dear, I didn't know that about Estee Lauder either.

Just occurred to me that you can also buy a sort of 'tester kit' of six smaller bottles plus an atomiser. I got one for my mother, who's very hard to please, and she talks about it constantly. Allows you to do the fragrance-combining thing. Think it costs about £60.

wheelybug · 08/03/2007 12:34

But Teecee, if thats put you off Jo Malone, I will happily take your voucher off your hands (and send you some rose petal water from my garden which won't be remotely commercial ).

ArcticRoll · 08/03/2007 12:40

I like French Lime Blossom which is similar to the Lime Basil one and lovely for summer.
I agree it's such a shame Estee Lauder has bought it. Also they now own Aveda. With L'oreal taking over Body Shop they aren't many independent companies left.

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 13:00

Oh my God, and now you hit witht he Aveda news! My other favourite. Are you trying to ruin my day?!

LOL - think I might force myself into just about managing to use this voucher though!

It's a hard choice. Think I might have to do Orange Blossom and then you are te,pting me with the Vetyver.

Still undecided though.

Another vote for French Lime Blossom. It's a fresh, light scent that even DH has complimented me on (and he hardly ever notices things like that!).

Gingerbear · 08/03/2007 13:08

I love LB&M too, got Pom Noir for Christmas - but it is a heady, sexy, evening scent.
I tried Blue Agava and Cacao, which is nice. Also have a tiny bottle of Amber and lavender - gorgeous.

scampadoodle · 08/03/2007 13:09

Orange Blossom is lovely, & my friend used to wear Grapefruit - always smelt gorgeous on her.

Piffle · 08/03/2007 13:13

vetyver is gorgeous
honeysuckle adn jasmine is very rich floral but delicious

I'd got for nectarine blossom and honey personally...
But am also lime basil mandrin devotee

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 13:15

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I need more vouchers. How will I EVER choose?

I have a full bottle of Lime Basil & Manderin left so still have that so not much point in gping for French Lime Blossom really.

Am going to do the Orange Blossom for sure.
Now I just have one more to choose.

Nectaring Blossom and Hponey sounds fab don't you think. or too sweet?

I thought I had Amber and Lavender on my list actually, yes that sounds nice, might be between that and the Vetyver.

Sorry TeeCee to break the news about Aveda...you don't happen to be an Origins fan too ?..as Estee Lauder also own them!

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 13:54

Right, habve officially got the living hump!
YES I'm a mASSIVE origins fan.
Sweet Jesus, i'm going naked from now on in protest!

You are in big trouble TC - I went on to have a look and see which one to recommend to you, and ended up spending a fortune!

I think Pommegranite Noir - only because that is the one I have just bought myself

I would split the £60 and buy two small bottles - they last for so long anyway, and that way you can choose a day time one and a night time one

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 14:10

PMSL Soapbox.

Yeah I was going to go for Orange Blossoma nd one other.

What did you get?

OP posts:
MrsMuddle · 08/03/2007 14:14

Soapbox, I love PN. Or at least I did until my 11 yr old DS said it smely like "off bananas". And when he said it, I knew exactly what he meant! It put me off for a while, but I wear it again now.

JolieGirl · 08/03/2007 14:17

Orange blossom is the best! Bought it for my wedding day and have used it since then - last 3 years. It has become my absolute signature smell that people immediately associate me with (better than baby sick then). Second favourite is the one with stephanotis, think it is with cassia cafe...can't remember but it's also bloody lovely.Mmmmm...I have the nectarine and honey one too - and it is nice but I rarely wear it as it is overpoweringly sweet

TeeCee · 08/03/2007 14:20

ahhh thanks for that thought the peach/honey one sounded fab but thought it would be very sweet.

Deffo having orange blossom now and can't wait. Maight mix it up and go for a heavier evening scent so is it the vetyver then do you reckon?
