As the one we have has quite a large gap and it does concern me.
I can fit my hand down it if all my fingers are together IYSWIM.

I'm sure i read somewhere that there is a certain size which is ok but can't remember and dh thinks its a load of gibberish.

Awww thanks Trinity.

I've had a look and I cant seem to find any mention of the mattress gaps.
I'm begining to wonder if I made it all up in my head.

Found this advice which sounds about right from what I can remember from my training and when I worked in Mothercare...

"The cot's mattress should be firm and fit snuggly with less than the width of two fingers between the inner edge of the cot and the side of the mattress."

and this...

"Now you have these measurements choose a cot mattress size that will NOT leave a gap of more than 4cm between the edge of the mattress and the sides of the cot, either on the width or the length. "

I was always told that there should be a gap of no more than 4 cms round between the edge of the matress and the cot. HTH.
