I didn't and now I feel mean. It was hard enough deciding on a first name TBH.

I hated my middle name as a child. It doesn't bother me now. But its never used for anything is it?

You can have a nickname.

Who puts middle names on name tags? First/last with me - besides it would never fit . The forms are a pain with titchy boxes sometimes but it's a small price to pay.

My DD's headteacher recommended Initial/surname only then you can re-use the tags if you kept the same initials for all your kids but I'm not quite that tight-fisted .

I don't think it matters at all as long as neither of them have middle names. My mum's 3 brothers have two middle names each and she has none. she always felt it was a symbol of how her parents were more interested in their sons than their daughter

I don't have middle name and always liked not having one. didn't see the point.

I wouldn' thave had any for my dc's but dh didn't agree, he wanted middle names.
My garndad died just as I founf otu I was pg. Didn't want as 1st name, so ds1 has my grandad's name as middle, so ds2 was, out of politeness, gives dh's grandad's name as middle. Come ds3, no more grandads so I got my way and he got no middle name.

hope lovely ds3 doesn't feel like your mum shoppingbagsundereyes, it was more what I wanted in 1st place, as was his 1st name. had to prodice 3 kids before I could getmy own way

My kids and I all have my maiden name as a middle as it is quite unusual and I was the last in our line and there are no more in the area

I didn't give my ds a middle name as didn't see the point! I have one but never use it. What exactly is the point of one?

so they can win at red letter.

also so their children/neices/nephews have more choices if they want to name children after them.

Our DSs have middle names that are passed down within DH's family, which I like the idea of. Another reason for them to have middle names was that we have a very common surname. My sister has just had her first baby and has decided not to give him a middle name as they have a double-barrelled surname. I like middle names but it's true that they rarely get used.
