any recommendations for good estate agents (if that isn't a contradiction in terms)...i.e. not too pushy, not too slimey, not too sharkey, with good range of properties...we are thinking about moving and trying to get a feel for what we can get in these areas...

thanks

We ended up buying our house from foxtons in Wimbledon. Very good estate agent, only showed us properties that would interest us, and SEEMED at least interest to finding the right house and not only making a sale. But I guess it all depends on who you will get, not only the company.....

I used to live in Wimbledon and we sold with Foxtons and they were good

bettys · 02/07/2004 22:52

We bought through James Anderson in Barnes & they were very good, friendly & efficient.

We're in Battersea and have been looking in Clapham and Balham. So far Douglas and Gordon and Hamptons have been the best in terms of listening to us and not being pushy. We had a bad experience with Foxtons, but I think it very much depends on the office for the big chains. Foxtons Balham seem nicer than Foxtons Lavender Hill.

for clapham try keating estates (i think they also cover battersea) - and they match your description to a T. ask for lisa keating. one thing though, i think there is rather a dearth of properties on the market in all the areas you mention atm - regardless of which agent you go to.

hth and good luck.

serenequeen · 02/07/2004 23:12

doh - you didn't want battersea!

Lots of people in Putney have been complaining about the Putney Foxtons so I wouldn't recommend them, but I don't know of any good estate agents around here, sorry!

We are buying a place in Kingston and so far Dexters have been very good - but again, it might vary from branch to branch and I don't know what the Richmond branch is like.

Foxtons in Putney are truly awful - I would like to kill them and possibly also disable all their nasty jaunty little minis. Savils in Putney are very good - sorry, I know they only do massive houses so may or may not be any help. Warrens in Putney are a very good local chain. All the ones in Putney are in the same place (top of High Street/Upper Richmond Road crossing) and so it is quite easy to browse all of them. Most of the chains have websites, and some of them you can download really good particulars.

Have been through the Putney and Wimbledon estate agents in the past couple of years.

In putney, if you want to sell go to Foxtons - over price everything!! If you want to buy avoid like the plague, but they do seem to have some of the nicer properties unfortunately. The rest are one and the same, depending on who you get assigned to you.

Wimbledon, all depends on what area you are looking at, some are stronger in certain areas, Ellisons in South park area (town) and lauristons/ savills in the village. Foxtons is a relative newcomer to the estate agent list in the past 1.5 years so still seem to have limited foothold. We bought a property which had 3 agents, including lauristons, who refused to stop marketing it after our offer was accepted through another agent, even though their client told them to stop! So not that keen on them, but they have a strong wimbledon presence.

www.findaproperty.co.uk is excellent.

sophable agree re James Anderson, they seemed great to me in Sheen and Putney

Alison at Featherstone Leigh in Sheen is really good, keeps you updated of new stuff all the time.

We bought through Barnard Marcus, they were fine if a little crap at returning phone calls sometimes but def not slimey.

CountessDracula · 03/07/2004 13:29

ps Steer clear of Allan Fuller in putney - what a knobhead - we call him Allan Fullershite

Blu · 04/07/2004 15:31

I sold my flat through Bells of Clapham a long time ago - and thought they were great. Have noticed that Haarts generally price things more on the low side than agents with a 'posher' image..there is one in Clapham - don't know about the other areas.

Looking for a good Letting Agent in Wandsworth, Clapham Junction area to let my house. I'm simply looking for them to find Tenants check references and financial standing. I tried Purplebricks but their recommended Agent is ghosting me. Now they're filtering calls so think I'm too small beer for them. I usually pay them the first months rent to do the work so it's a big deal for me. TIA
