what kind of wall paper is it? shiny one try to rub it off, matt one... I don't really have a clue but... do you have a piece of furniture big enough to hide it sorry...]

Have you got one of those scraper things? Scrape as much as you can off. Is the wallpaper patterned? Your landlord may have some spare - you could offer to replace that bit?

think of a way of getting some talcum powder on it (perhaps applying to paper towel, then carfully lifting up to wallpaper - most of it will go on the floor, but at least you can hoover that up, then applying gentle heat (hot water bottle)? The warm talc should absorb most of the grease. Good luck - bloomin' letting agents don't need much of an excuse!

Oh dear... you probably don't want to know that I didn't completely shift the vaseline from DS2s walls. If you search on veseline, you might find my thread!
