Quick question .... must a man wear those black shiny shoes with a black tie or is he allowed "normal" black shoes ?

Normal formal ones are OK. I think that they call them half Oxfords - the ones with just the stitching across the toes in two straight lines are fine!! DH went to Paris for a conference & black tie do recently and forgot his black ones - ended up wearing brown trendy Next things as he only realised too late to buy any more!![grin}
