We have ntl/virgin broadnband but I'm not sure if it's the one you've already got or the one you're getting. It's a separate modem but I think it's plugged into the box.

In any case, have a bump!

MrsPhilipGlenister · 23/02/2007 14:33

We've got a modem from Virgin when we signed up to their broadband service - is that any help?

2shoesisinvisible · 23/02/2007 15:17

does it go through the telephone

Yes, I think so...we have a separate phoneline for the computer.

2shoesisinvisible · 23/02/2007 15:31

thanks I am worried about the change. is the broadband always there?

I am not quite sure what you mean. I always disconnect from broadband as soon as I have finished using the PC. So no, I don't think it is always there. But tbh I haven't checked as we have another line for the telephone.

Sorry, not being much help here!

Aloveheart · 23/02/2007 16:11

I think it's cable i have a cable from virgin and it goes through a cable not telephone line. i don't have the tv though just phone and broadband.

MrsPhilipGlenister · 23/02/2007 16:12

Ah you see I don't have phone through cable (can't, long story) so we have cable separately.

coppertop · 23/02/2007 16:16

It doesn't affect the phone. By that I mean you can still make and receive phone calls while using the internet. It's there whenever you click on the internet option on your computer, as long as your computer is connected to the modem - either by a cable or wireless connection (if you have wireless set up).

MrsPhilipGlenister · 23/02/2007 16:18

Coppertop you are so brainy (and I am so thick).

coppertop · 23/02/2007 16:20

Ooooh I love you, MrsPG!

2shoesisinvisible · 23/02/2007 17:03

yes I have cable
at the moment I don't have a modem. so will they conct it to the set top box or the telephone point

AFAIK ours is connected to the set-top box.

zephyrcat · 23/02/2007 17:09

I have NTL/virgin broadband. It's not wireless though. They connect it byt putting a new point onto your wall from outside and the modem cable runs from that. It has nothing to do with the tv or the phone... does that make sense or are you getting wireless?

zephyrcat think you have got it. I did wonder why it was being "fitted" as if it just went on your phone line you could do it yourself. also the term stand alone made me feel it stood alone iynwim

and no I only have one neighboir and she doesn'y have wireless

Dh has just said that it's a separate cable that comes from outside. The cable is split with one half going to the set-top box and the other half to the broadband. Dh says they just need to put in the 'splitter' and connect it.

2shoesisinvisible · 23/02/2007 22:44

please thank you r dh and thank you I was VERY confused
