waitrose?

codswallop · 26/06/2004 22:33

say they need 7 days but you could beg

HiddenSpirit · 26/06/2004 22:35

How about your local bakers? I don't know about here but where I used to live quite a few of the bakers did them and only needed something like 2 days notice

Do you have a COSTCO warehouse store near you they do great cakes that are large and they will ice them with name etc. You can get loads of designs, eg. football pitch they have them in store or you can order them.

I was about to post the same as Katherine - its my 40th on sat and I've ordered the cake from Costco (they need 48 hours notice for a personalised one). The cakes are fairly simply iced but taste fantastic, are huge and they are very cheap!

katherine37 · 26/06/2004 22:57

The carrot ones are lovely and not dry at all and they freeze brill. Just defrost on the counter, and even the icing is still great. Happy birthday for sat. Soapbox.

Agree with costco, their's are gorgeous but you need to give three days if ordering and they should be kept in a fridge which is near enough impossible because of the size. I had one done for ds2 christening. £10

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2004 23:04

I'd suggest going to the nearest 'family' sort of cake shop and see what they can do, you might get lucky. What about Snappy Snaps? Or have you tried Asda, have a feeling they might do it. I know there isn't one in Ealing but still. Will see if I can find out more!

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2004 23:07

What about Caketoppers? Looks like you buy the photo icing and add it to your own cake. No idea about them though!

katherine37 · 26/06/2004 23:08

There are COSTCO stores all over the place,eg: WATFORD and BLUEWATER/LAKESIDE.
Phone head office 01923-213113 or
watford store is 01923-225449 and you should be able to find out a local one to you.
You do need to become a member so phone them for details.

WideWebWitch · 26/06/2004 23:16

I knew I'd seen this in a supermarket, Safeway do it but according to their site only in Plymstock or Woking but I've never been near those places so might be worth trying the nearest ones.

Slink · 26/06/2004 23:18

You are all stars thank you will ring costco tomorrow. thank you againxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Slink. I live in Acton and go to the Costco in Watford. It's a quick buzz up the M1, get off at Junction 5 and then head south (back towards london) on the A41. Go straight over first roundabout, it's the 2nd driveway on right (not marked, but you can see the large sign on the side of the building as you are turning). In order to be a member you have to either be a professional (ie doc, lawyer, arch, teacher) or have your own business (self-employed is ok). They will need 1 or 2 pieces of id proving this. I'm not sure you can order the cakes in advance over the phone (you may have to go into the store), but if you can I think you will have to give them 48 hours notice. Even if you only get a non-personalized one, they still are themed, say happy birthday, enormous and delicious and only £10 (I think).
