Cold callers/nuisance calls driving me mad.

How do other MN'ers deal with these calls? Some days I am getting 4 or 5 a day,about anything from PPI to accident claims. I am registered on the cold callers opt-out register,but this doesn't seem to have made a lot of difference. I don't want to switch my phone off in case I miss a call/text from someone I DO wish to speak to. Asking the callers to take me off their list makes no difference. And where the hell are they getting my number from?! I am very selective about who I give my number to.

is that the Telephone preference service you have joined? If not , you can do this online, and it reduced my calls by a fair bit. Not all tbh, it doesn't apply to phone calls from outside the UK , sadly

You can get a device called a call blocker from places like Argos, Curry's. It costs between £40 - £50 and is quite easy to set up. It only lets through numbers you recognise/know

Yes bookbook,it was the telephone preference service that I joined. Signed up to it about 8 or 9 months ago. The volume of calls decreased considerably to start with,then gradually began to creep up again. My DD said that if the person was calling from a number that was abroad,it wouldn't be affected by the telephone preference service register. But a call that I had today was definitely a UK number. Just doesn't make sense.

As soon as you know it's a scammer:

"Just a moment, someone at the door, back in a moment"

Wait about a minute and pick up the phone

"I've just been on my mobile to my office which is the International Fraud Investigation Division of OFCOM - we can have any call traced in about ninety seconds and then have it blocked while we investigate, and if it's outside the UK we can have it blocked from phoning the UK - are you sure you wish to continue with this call? "

They cannot wait to clear the call!

if it is a mobile, block them.

if it is a landline, buy a call blocker box - there is one with a satisfying 'block now' button on the front, and it also comes with a pre-programmed list of scammer numbers. Set it to block 'unavailable' and you should have virtual silence.

I get this at work all the time
It's bloody annoying as I don't spend all day in the office. I might be doing something really important and have to run across the nursery to answer the phone, only for it to be a bloody cold caller or worse, nobody there

specialsubject - yes it's a mobile,I don't have a landline any more. Trouble is though,I've ended up blocking so many 'nuisance' numbers,that the message 'insufficient room left for blocked numbers' came up! It doesn't help that they seem to call from a different number each time,so blocking one number doesn't stop them,they just call from a different one!
