I got a 'beauty treatment' voucher for Christmas from dh (unsubtle hint?) and used it today to get my first ever manicure and waxing - underarm, legs, lip/eyebrow. The facial stuff is great but I couldn't believe how painful the underarm/leg one was - I lay there thinking THANK GOD I didn't book a bikini wax. I hate immac, I'm fed up of shaving - what else is there? Or do you just get used to the pain of waxing. I'm not about to go out hairy any time soon, so please don't suggest that. Love and smooth skin xx

There's something called sugaring - if anyone here has tried that I'd be interested to know how painful (or not) it is. I am either fantastically pain tolerant or just not v hairy as waxing doesn't bother me.

I used to know some girls (Indian - may or may not be relevant) who did 'threading' on each other for small areas - eyebrows/lip. They didn't appear to wince...

waxing gets less painful as you go along in my experience anyway.first few times hurt like hell

steinermum · 18/02/2007 19:57

Yes, Pruni, the results were good and now, a day later, I don't feel quite so traumatised.

Hi Steinermum. I've been waxing since my teenage years but never tried underarm - its reputation was so bad (for pain). You get used to the pain over time.

A couple of months ago I discovered home waxing - a bit messy and time consuming, but so much cheaper, esp if only wanting it for small areas.

Yes it was definitely the underarm waxing which was the worst. But surely bikini line's got to be up there with childbirth in the pain stakes??

Not all that bad as it only lasts a few seconds
