Songs to run to?

2nervesleft · 16/02/2007 20:21

I need to run to lose this bit of weight even though I hate hate hate running.
I need to download some high octane songs to help me stay on the treadmill. Was thinking of
"Don't feel like Dancing" Scissor Sisters
"Don't Stop me now" Queen

What else would you recommend? Don't mind if it is old or new or what genre, it doesn't even have to have "don't" in the title but it must be upbeat.
TIA

my hubby just put some songs on my ipod just for running - will try and post link

Bomper · 16/02/2007 20:24

Not particularly 'high octane' but 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' has got a great beat to run to!!

hana · 16/02/2007 20:24

he jsut chose some from our collection, sorry!
but it's all up tempo stuff. makes it much better for pounding the pavements, lol

2nervesleft · 16/02/2007 20:31

Bomper is that the guy with the curly hair in the 80'? What were they called?? It's on the tip of my tongue!

Knights of Sidonia by Muse.

But you really need to run naked to that song or even better be naked on horseback - doesn't work otherwise

2nervesleft · 16/02/2007 20:40

Think that would get me a life ban from the gym tbh bobsmum.

Cheesier the better. I like 'ain't nothin' gonna break my stride' and 'eye of the tiger'. Would never normally listen to either.

DrumMum · 16/02/2007 21:07

anything by meatloaf....

TwoIfBySea · 16/02/2007 21:53

Lust For Life - Iggy Pop.

And for good measure stuff some cds in your pocket and roll over a car.

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 16/02/2007 21:58

i like girls aloud for the gym, loike the music and the fact that i'm jealous of their figure inspires me even more!

Pink is pretty good too, erm

i usually look on hmvs website, pick a compilation album that is inthe charts and look at the track listings!

FiachraFrog · 16/02/2007 21:59

There was a v similar thread a few days ago called, IIRC, "Songs to exercise to" - had some great music on it

mckenzie · 16/02/2007 22:03

I always listened to Bob Segers Greatest hits when running on the treadmill and would run to the beat of each track so sometimes I would be just jogging and others I would be nearly sprinting. It stopped me getting bored.

moondog · 16/02/2007 22:03

I have Eye of the Tiger on my iPod.
I snigger to myself as I walk in punching the air.

I ifnd different songs suit different stages.
To start, dreamier trance inducing things 'La Vie en Rose' Grace Jones is great also that Spiller(?) one 'If this aint love'

For when you are really moving Billy Idol's 'Dancing with Myself' B52 'Rock Lobster' and Tom Petty 'Running down a dream'

There is a website 9can't remember address) which gives you tunes with beats per minute.
Unfortunately I haven't heard of 90 % of them.

Classic rock 'n roll is really great to run to as well.

2nervesleft · 16/02/2007 22:06

I must have missed that on FF will do a search.
Did look in health and other stuff before posting but didn't see anything, I'm not sure where to post exercise stuff.

Eye of the tiger! lol Do you think the Final Countdown would be too much?

moondog · 16/02/2007 22:16

No!
In many ways, the naffer the better!
Keeps you smiling.
I have a lot of Bee Gees and barry White on mine too.

Bomper · 17/02/2007 08:49

2nervesleft - It was Tears For Fears!! Oh, how I loved Curt Smith in my teenage years!!

EllieHsMum · 17/02/2007 08:56

Curt Smith was my fav as a teenager too!

schneebly · 17/02/2007 09:05

Also the main theme from 'rocky' you know when he is running! the one that goes

do do do do do do do do do do do

do do do do do do do do do do do

do do do do do do dodooooo

do do doooooooo

do do doooooooo

crunchie · 17/02/2007 09:11

I'm really into Mika's new album when I'm running, particularly

'Sucking too hard on your Lollipop, love is gonna get you down' !!

And also Madonnas, Confessions on a Dance Floor (actualy I have immaculate collection that works too!)

I find it is just about songs you reall love, as when it gets tough you just HAVE to stay to listen to the last bit - or next song etc

Tirnanog · 17/02/2007 11:25

The theme from 'Chariot's of Fire'

Tirnanog · 17/02/2007 11:27

you would have to run in slow motion though

itsmeNDP · 17/02/2007 11:34

Living for the Weekend - Hard-Fi

Somewhere Else - Razorlight

itsmeNDP · 17/02/2007 11:36

I like the Way You Move - Body Rockers is also a good one, a bit of a naff song but it has a really good pace

2nervesleft · 17/02/2007 13:49

Tears for Fears - yes, I remember now.
Lol at running in slow motion to chariots of fire.

I want to break free - queen
Dancing in the moonlight - Toploader
You win again - BeeGees
Toxic - Britney Spears
Beautiful day - U2
Superstar - Jamelia

All cheesy tunes that are on my iPod!
