New kitchen ordered but I am clueless about wall tiles. Please advise!

The kitchen units are gloss. They are a yellowy-cream colour. The floor tiles are a creamy/whitey/beige colour. We've ordered a wooden work-top - I think it is beech.

I have no idea what to do about wall tiles. I gather people don't go in for all-over wall tiling anymore. Having no wall tiles might have been an option if we'd gone for a granite or veneer work-top and could have had that extra seamless ridge (whatever it is called) a little way up the wall.

So, we may go for one or two rows of small tiles. But in what colour? One colour? 2?

And should we make a tiled splashback? Again, one colour? Two?

The kitchen walls are currently yellow but we realise when the new units arrive we may have to change it as we're in danger of yellow-overload. Again though, what colour goes with/contrasts with yellowy/cream cabinets?

Help me please.

I am having my kitchen done too, similar coloured units and wooden worktop. I am planning to not have tiles - going to put up a stainless steel splashback behind the hob and the sink will (hopefully) be on a peninsula unit so no wall behind it.

You could go for a glass splashback instead and paint the wall behind first?

If you do want tiles I would go for something neutral personally (maybe the same colour as whatever you decide for the wall) though if you llike bright colours this is a good way to introduce them...

I have seen some nice tiles in Wickes in a mixture of browns/beiges, larger than mosaic but smaller than normal tiles, matt surface, which would also look good....

here they are

I really like the glass splashbacks you can get, I think that would go well with a gloss finish kitchen
