Yes they will - they need to check whether your inside wound has healed.... my consultant also told me I was constipated !!!

hewlettsdaughter · 15/06/2004 20:53

Woulsdn't have thought so - I didn't have one at my check and I had a vaginal birth.

suzywong · 15/06/2004 20:56

Have to say they never went near me for either of mine.
But I made fabulously camp doctor check my second scar and he told me I would be wearing hipsters within a week. (??????!!!!)

hewlettsdaughter · 15/06/2004 20:57

Sorry, I was assuming less need after a section.

nutcracker · 15/06/2004 20:58

Erm the doc after my 1st section was going to do an internal but i was still bleeding so i escaped without it.

It wasn't even suggested with sections 2 and 3.

jampot · 15/06/2004 21:02

BUPA were footing my bill so maybe the consultant thought he should earn his wage as it were!!!!

Gem13 · 15/06/2004 21:03

I got asked if 'everything was alright' and that was it! Didn't do an internal, didn't look at my scar, nothing. Much more interested in doing the baby check.

Can't say I was disappointed. Seems like it all depends on the doctor.

poppyseed · 15/06/2004 21:05

I had internals with both of mine and they were vaginal deliveries. My top tip would be to 'spruce up' just in case!!!

Judd · 15/06/2004 21:13

Nope, no internal with my first caesarean. Now panicked incase I get one this time round and I'm not "prepared"!!

I didn't have an internal at my 6 week check either - first cs.

MiriamR · 15/06/2004 21:19

Hi - 'prepped' myself for my 6 wk check-up as had been advised by m/w that GP would do my smear (as it was due). GP never came near me - just asked me how was I feeling? etc. Whole appt focused more on the baby.

Gem13 · 15/06/2004 21:23

For the baby they check them over - quick look - and (if a boy) check their testes and for both check their hips. Doesn't take more than a few minutes.

IME it's really for the doctor to meet the baby they'll be taking on.

Do you have a red book? One page will have a list of questions you are supposed to go through before the appointment and answer Yes/No/Not sure. These can them form basis of a discussion with HV.

  • are you well yourself?
  • is your baby feeding well?
  • how are you feeding your baby?
  • does your baby smile at you?
  • does your baby watch your face and follow with his/her eyes?
  • do you think your baby can hear?
  • is your baby startled by loud noises?
  • are there any problems in looking after your baby?
  • do you have any worried about your baby?

Next pages are the pages for HV to complete with result of checks:

  • weight
  • head circumfrence
  • feeding method
  • does baby smile
  • whether there is a high risk hearing

The a list of checks to be done with place for HV to circle findings: N - normal; R - recall; A - abnormality already known. These are:

  • CVS
  • Heart
  • Femoral Pulses
  • Red reflex
  • Genital
  • Hips
  • CNS Development
  • Palatte

Other than that it'll be just a general chat with you to see how you think you are both getting on.

Had mine today and no internal - just glancedat my scar, and asked how I was feeling and whether I was depressed. (which I'm not, but if I really was, wouldn't I have denied it?)

Hulababy · 15/06/2004 21:31

Oh forgot that bit: also had a questionnaire to complete to assess my liklihood/risk of having/getting depression at this check.
