Help! - traffic noise solution

Just wondered whether anyone could help. We have just viewed a fantastic house in our village. It has quite a bit of land but needs quite a bit of updating. The problem is that a busy A road runs about 20ft beyond the bottom of the (large) garden. It is set about 15ft below the garden level .We would love the house but wondered what we could do about screening out the traffic noise. There are several trees on the boundary (although most are bare atm). We thought maybe planting evergreens - laurel etc may really help? Does anyone have a solution or could recommend a website etc. I would be really grateful.

I live in a village where some of my friends houses back onto busy roads and whilst you can screen out the actual traffic, not much will screen out the actual noise i'm afraid

hi, don't think you can do anything to block out the noise but im pretty sure you would get used to it once you lived there, and then it would'nt be as noticable.

Double glazing
thick curtains + blinds
Trees
but nothing will truly get rid of it
only buy it if you're SURE it won't bug you
it annoys me and we're not that close and it's not that busy a road but I have become v middle aged about it

We live next to a busy road and tgh it isn't good. It's ok in winter when you don't want windows open.

Last summmer was awful, we couldn't open bedroom window because the traffic noise kept us awake, and it was boiling. I wouldn't buy the house. Sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear.

Thanks for all the replies. There isn't any noise inside the house, but thats obv without the windows open. I know I didn't really want to hear that it couldn't be improved much, but I would rather know the truth My DH is really up for the house, as are my DS (it has an outdoor swimming pool and 1.3 acres of garden)and DH says the noise in the back garden doesn't bother him, but I think it would get me down tbh.
