he doesn't have parental responsibility so that wouldn't be a factor that could stop me but thinking about going abroad to escape.

but i doubt very much its possible is it. because i wouldnt be able to get housing or be allowed to claim benefit would I?

Do you mean claiming benefit/housing abroad or in the UK??

Have you contacted Womens Aid, or looked at their website?

(sorry haven't really got any proper advice)

annetizzismum · 31/01/2007 09:38

yes, would only really feel safe abroad, but presumably i wouldnt get council hosuing there or be able to claim benefit

Moving abroad doesn't have to be the only option although it must seem like it is at the moment.
I'm sorry I don't know the full story (I don't know if you have posted about it here)
I don't know the facts surrounding moving abroad but i doubt it would be simple.
I felt this desperate once, but there are other ways to start afresh.

0117 944 4411

Not sure re. NZ but if in Europe then once you are in the Social Security system, you are entitled to state benefits/support if it is within a country that has a reciprocal arrangement with UK.

For example,in France I had to complete the relevant E forms (E106 if incapacitated here) and then take them to Social Security place in France wherepon I receievd my Carte Vitale which entitled me to health and SS benefits.

It is waaaay more complicated and bureaucratic than that in practice but that's the general idea!

I'm in a Women's Aid refuge if you want to chat?

Mercy · 03/03/2007 15:22

Sorry, this will have to be a quick post.

Since the 1980s, NZ has cut right back on its social welfare system. For example, there is no longer an NHS type system, you have to take out medical insurance and even have to pay for some prescriptions for children.

annetizzismum · 03/03/2007 15:27

newlifenewname would love to chat, i am so desperate

bump

newlifenewname · 03/03/2007 17:33

Ooh - well I'll CAT you my email. I have limited internet access due to being in refuge (downside there).

Am in France this wknd sorting out the house we shared - I moved back to UK in the middle of the night.

Don't regret it but it isn't easy this road to 'recovery'.

newlifenewname · 03/03/2007 17:35

Oh ratbags! I can't as my subscription expired 22nd Jan - hadn't realised! Sorry, can't afford to renew right now and won't post address here for obvious reasons.

oxocube · 03/03/2007 17:38

I remember you story Newlife. Am so glad you finally made the move and really hope it works out for you.

newlifenewname · 03/03/2007 17:41

Hi there oxo - I feel really settled now, thanks! Have transferred to a smaller refuge so am with just one other family now and get on really well with the mother and her 2 daughters.

It could be a long wait before I either find private accomodation or am housed by the council (up to a year) but where I am is almost like home ignoring having to share bunk beds with my 3 children!

Mercy · 03/03/2007 17:42

I've just noticed my subscription has expired too.

I will renew it. I can't remmeber how it works exactly - do you pay to send or to send and receive?

Sorry, what I'm trying to say is, I don't mind being the go between so that you two can swap email addresses.
