And if so why?

OP posts:
sparkymummy · 27/01/2007 16:14

I do! Not for my "big shop" as Peter Kay calls it, but for bits and pieces during the week as I have no car and its the only decent shop within walking distance, why?

Ready · 27/01/2007 16:16

It's the only convenience shop in my village, so if I forget something in my bulk shop, then I will pop there. It's quite expensive.

Ours is a local one but is open long hours so I use it for bits and pieces. They often have some good BOGOF deals and they sell quite a bit of Fair Trade stuff......any excuse to buy chocolate

tracyk · 27/01/2007 16:38

I use mine every now and then. Apparently we were sposed to get a M&S Simply food there and the council said no - and then yes to the co-op! Buggers!

Blandmum · 27/01/2007 16:53

Not for the 'big shop' but I do get milk, bread etc as and when we run out. It is the nearest shop to us, but is small and their fresh stuff is dire. Never looks that clean either

nikkie · 27/01/2007 18:13

Not the one local to me, they are cr*p, always out of dat and expensive. Two near work I go in quite a lot they are both Ok.
Do all coops have long queues? These 3 do!

tortoise · 27/01/2007 18:15

I do for bread, milk etc because its the nearest shop. Otherwise its bus/train to town about 16 miles away!
Its quite good for a little town shop really.

Lilymaid · 27/01/2007 18:17

It is the only food shop in my village. I wouldn't buy meat there but often have to stock up on veg (though they let it go rather limp). The staff aren't particularly great but it is open 8 - 10 on 7 days per week. It often has good offers - particularly for wine. Oh, and it is fairly ethical and owned by its members.

Tortington · 27/01/2007 18:17

loaf of bread, bits n pieces.

fruit is shit and its overpriced. its very ethical and its lentil weavng for the working classes.

i thank you

geekgrrl · 27/01/2007 18:18

I do occasionally because it's our closest supermarket. but as others have said, the fresh stuff isn't good. The staff is also really dire - rude, nobody at the tills etc.
Good for BOGOF & fairtrade though.

Tommy · 27/01/2007 18:27

ours does the most gorgeous french bread and bakery section so I do go in there more often than I should....

but otherwise just for things I have forgotten although I do like the Fairtrade stuff - wine, chocolate etc and the FT choclate chip cake is yummy!

fizzbuzz · 27/01/2007 18:34

Our local Co-op has longest queues in the world, as is packed full of students buying pint of milk and loaf of bread on credit card.Great fun with a grizzling baby.

Also staff not very bright IYKWIM....

whatkatydidntdo · 27/01/2007 18:37

it is our nearest suprmarket (we have a big one here not a little corner shop type)

It's got better since moving into a new building.

bakedpotato · 27/01/2007 18:38

I prefer it to the only-slightly-further-away Sainsburys and Tesco minis. Though I wish CoOp stocked organic/freerange meat. It passes the pak choi/organic milk test, though. Love the bogofs.
The staff are very nice, particularly to the children.
I went to a CoOp in Suffolk recently and when I asked for parmesan they made deeply puzzled faces.

janeite · 27/01/2007 18:51

Ours is pretty awful but they do lots of Fairtrade choc and often have Innocent Smoothies on offer!

The fruit and vege is dreadful and very expensive. The coffee shop does a nice latte though and I usually need it by the time I've walked round the shop, tutting at the prices and quality of things!

NbgsYellowFeathers · 27/01/2007 18:57

We have one a few doors away. I bloody hate them. Overpriced and never have decent bread in.

In fact I think they're haunting me because we've had a CO-OP literally 1 min from our house, every where we've lived.

nutcracker · 27/01/2007 19:00

I do somrtimes as it is the nearest shop to me, but I hate it, they are so shite.

They have the machine that I can top up my gas and electric on and it has been broken for 2 weeks, meaning I have to pay another £2.80 to go into town and use a different machine.

If you go in the morning they never have any fruit or veg that is edible.
Their bread is always stale and the queues are stupid even though they now have self serve tills.

Blandmum · 27/01/2007 19:02

Why are they all shite???

ben I was a student they removated the one in Oxford town centre. Spent a bloody fortune on it, and at the end it looks like shite and dirty!

Why is this?

janeite · 27/01/2007 19:05

Is anybody brave enought o email them this thread?

NbgsYellowFeathers · 27/01/2007 19:08

Christ, where do you live nutty to be lucky enough to get self serve tills!

Notquitesotiredmum · 27/01/2007 19:09

We have three! One is OK, a bit dingy and depressing, but near to the sewing shop I use. I pop in occasionally.

Another is next to the shoe shop we use! It's smallish, newly refurbed, convenient for things you have forgotten on your big shop, but has long queues at the tills.

There's a third one we use is called "Budget-lo" but which is a co-op in disguise, down in Dorset, where we go for regular weekends. It's fantastic. Open from 7am - 11pm, and is a real tardis. It looks small, but whatever you need they have. Fantastic offers - specally on ice-creams and wine, though a small and tatty fruit and veg section. I love this shop and would use it v. regularly if we lived there.

Why the question?

nikkie · 27/01/2007 19:23

Ooh go on Janeite

DimpledThighs · 27/01/2007 19:47

we have one over teh road - long queues and rubbish fruit and veg..

BUT

convient and fair trade stocks are fab

Gingerbear · 27/01/2007 19:51

Our local co-op is excellent. Not a vast range, but the fruit and veg are decent and the bread good. The staff are pleasant and smart and the wine selection is top notch.

So ner.
