as most of you are aware we had a small-ish car accident in april, which resulted in my car being written off. i started my driving lessons back up afterwards, but had a panic attack after 2 lessons. i have been scared to go out on another lesson since as i feel it may happen again. i really do need to be driving by jan as dd1 starts school on the other side of town then and dh is awful for getting out of bed on time, and i'd feel better knowing i can drive her (it will take over an hour to walk there). has anyone been thro this kinda thing b4, and can anyone offer advice on what i should be doing to help myself with this.

misdee: sounds to me like you may be sufferring from mild form of post traumatic stress disorder..and that you might benefit from some counselling about this. driving sounds like it is v important to your sense of being in control of your life, and maybe you need to prioritise this for yourself. is counselling something you've done before/ever thought about. there are people that work short term (like 12 sessions) and specialise in alleviating panic attack type symptoms (the type of therapy would be cognitive/behavioural based) rather than really digging round and uncovering all your patterns etc...is it something you migth consider? i think it might really help with the panic attacks.

the attack was linked to the crash, as it happen when i was practising right turns (the lorry took a right turn into our car). i have to see the gp again shortly as my neck is still painful (whiplash) and need to get more painkillers and anti inflamatries, so will ask about conselling then.
i have been working hard to get ready for my theory test, but i really do need to get this sorted.
