Very quick computer question PLEASE!

my little treasure bashed my laptop earlier and somehow managed to press some buttons which made the screen get darker.

I've no idea how to brighten it up again, I have searched all afternoon and my eyes hurt now!

please help!

I have microsoft windows xp btw

On my dh's laptop you have to press a button with Fn (for function) and then the arrow keys which have little blue sun symbols on them.
