What a great thread Pruni!

Mine are:

Art - especially modern, ie Jenny Saville, John Currin, etc
Literature - old and current
Current affairs (although do get a bit bored of talking about the ins and outs of the Iraq War after about an hour....)
Gardening, esp veg
Chickens
Horses / riding
Chocolate
Motorbikes
Kink-issues (cough)
Mental health issues and the state of the NHS
Shoes
The younger generation
Philosophy

got to go now - got some chocolate to eat, whilst riding a horse and thinking of kink issues....

DimpledThighs · 25/01/2007 12:44

ParanoidAndroid

Love your list - envision you philosophically riding a motorbike wearing kinky shoes reading an article about chickens in the times.

Steppy1 · 25/01/2007 12:52

how sport can help children learn for life (am a sports coach)
businesses (run a couple, always interested in what motivates others !)
sex (or lack of !) and relationships
giving birth (have been a birth doula)
what makes people "tick"
the NHS and maternity services
how wonderful my children are.......

ParanoidAndroid · 25/01/2007 16:00

Not the Times, DimpledThigh, not the Times. I wouldn't give Murdoch a penny of my money. No I'm an Indy/Grauniad reader 'fraid. It goes with the kink-awareness you know!

Jilly Cooper heroes and heroines
childrens books
why people do the things they do
books I've read and whether I agree or not with their theories
5 star hotels
customer service, esp in UK
mumsnet and mumsnetters, past and present, flounces, trolls, controversy
childbirth choices

God, you wouldn't want to be stuck with me at a party would you?

Pruni, I wonder if you're at that bit where you've been a bit subsumed and you're coming out of it, I wouldn't have had ANYTHING to talk about when ds was just 3! In fact, I was talking about Fast Food Nation at preschool one day and a woman came up to me and said "how old's your child?" when I said four and a bit she said "oh so THAT'S why you've got your brain back enough to think about this stuff" - she had a 2yo iirc and I liked her very much and had I stayed living there I think I'd still know her (Devon). I know not everyone's like that but I was and she was.

moondog · 25/01/2007 21:50

www if you want to know why people do the things they do,get into Skinner and applied behaviour analysis. It is changing my life.

Hmmm...I can go on and on and on at people and frequently see their eyes glaze over, so wtf am I talking about, eh?

Er:
food and cooking
cake (subsection of above)
the utter amazingness of writers like Helen Simpson and Sarah Waters
writers of well-constructed gore like Harlan Coben and Val McDermid
DP's relatives

...er...

It really ages you having kids eh?
And completely knocks the stuffing out of you too.
My ds is 21/2 and I have felt myself perking up properly only in the last 3 months.

StrangeTown · 25/01/2007 22:36

Great lists everyone - some really mixtures. I am way less passionate about my interests and how I discuss them has changed so much. I am far more conversationally cautious.

Reading
Deaf Awareness/Sign Language
Cooking/Food/Recipes
Horses/Riding
Netball
Quality Metholodogies in Business

I sound utterly tedious, even to myself.

divamumdiva · 25/01/2007 22:38

i could be wrong but most men think femminism is lesbianism?

moondog · 25/01/2007 22:41

ST,my dh would be foaming at the mouth in eagerness at your last one.
(Er...I wouldn't though.)

I admitted to having a soft spot for Pringles ages ago!
I never eat them thoguh (iron willed, that's me.)
Yeah,they're shit aren't they.Extruded starch.

I think it goes back to my father buying us some in about 1975 on a visit to the mainland. As we lived in the middle of the Pacific and weree home schooled they were pretty damned excitinbg,I can tell you.

Oh the shame....

foxinsocks · 25/01/2007 22:48

Football
Cryptography
Crime fiction
Politics (sometimes, though get a bit fed up of it every now and then)
Conspiracy theories (even though dh takes the biscuit for that and I love rubbishing his, secretly, I quite like the idea of them)

Baking (even though I have little patience so only do quick and easy stuff)

At the moment, plumbing and plastering (due to house ggrrr)

Oh and routes round London - frequently have long conversations with people about the best route to drive between A and B in London

CountessDracula · 25/01/2007 22:49

Oh foxy I thought you supported chelsea, surely you can't be interested in football if so?
