Advice for driving test!!

I have my driving test a month today. I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to keep calm, and not get so nervous.

Has anyone taken it recently, as I heard it has been changed and that you need to know the basic things about looking after/checking your car, which driving instructor hasnt covered yet.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

I took a bach flower remedy - 'rescue remedy' before my test, it really helped calm me . My three point turn was closer to a nine point turn, and I stalled at one point too! But, thankfully I did stay calm, so passed. It was a few years ago and in Ireland so the test would differ from here so can't give any practical advice about it, but good luck! You'll do fine .

I passed my test a month ago and I took bach rescue remedy too. The best thing to do is just to say to yourself that it doesn't matter if you fail because you can always redo it. It's not like a school exam where you only get the one chance!

Another thing to remember is not to do anything hasty, if anything err on the side of caution (but not too much mind!). Remember mirrors - I got 10 minor faults and almost all of those were mirror related.

Good luck, break a leg. You'll be fine!

The questions are about what's under the bonnet and what to check with your car to make sure everything is working fine, eg tyres, handbrake, lights, horn, and under the bonnet you have to show how to check the oil and show them where each of the different fluids are. My instructor didn't give me the sheet until the week before and we went through everything in the last lesson! They don't ask you all the questions in the test which is good (he didn't ask me to look under the bonnet at all!)

passed a fortnight ago today (3rd attempt!)this time I took my instructor in the car with me and I think having him there made the examiner slightly more forgiving and kept me going. For example I touched the kerb when i reversed round the corner and IMHO drove much worse than on my second test. I'm normally a very calm person but went to pieces over this.

The bonnet stuff is easy. least of your problems.

Oh, and if you feel it is unsafe to switch lanes intime to do a right turn it is better to say "sorry, i don't think i can turn right safely" or whatever and go off route. They can't fail you for that. They will fail you if another driver has to brake sharply to accomodate you.

Good luck, it will be fine.

tammybear, try the rescue remedy...it really helps with nerves
you can you it for the days leading up to it as well, the week before test can be even more nerve-wreaking than the test itself!
rescue remedy now comes in a spray so it really handy to carry around with you. you just spray twice on/under your tongue and it calms those butterflies in you stomach straight away. on the morning of your test, you can you it every 5 minutes if you need, you can't take too much. in fact the more often you use it, the more effective it is.

afraid i cant give you any driving advice...i did my test in Northern Ireland (so may be different) and it was years ago.

Good Luck

Good luck, do plenty of practise/revision and take a big deep breath.

I have a theory that these instructors are bored out of their skulls so wear nice bright colours and SMILE!! I am not saying they'll pass you for it but it might put them in a better mood.
