another dull questions about using PCs and screen grabs

Can anyone tell me how to get a screen grab /pic from a PC?
On my mac its easy - Hold down apple and shift with and then press the number 4. You get a curser which you can then click and left drag across screen and it saves pic to your desktop.

What do you do on a PC.

Get the right thing on the screen

Press the Print Screen button (nothing happens...)

Go to Word/Paint

Paste

Ta da!!

so by using the Press the Print Screen button it saves to memeory and then you can paste in word only?

it saves to clipboard. you can paste to any programme.

yes, it does the whole screen. You can copy just the window you're in by holding down er something. can't remember what.

You could paste it wherever you want - what are you trying to do with the screen pic?

Print Screen copies the whole contents on the screen to memory. If you only wanted to get a picture of an active dialog box (say you were in Word and wanted a picture of the Open dialog box) you get the dialog box on screen and then use Alt and Print Screen together, and it will copy the active dialog box only.

Once you's pasted it into something you can edit it like any other picture - resize it, crop bits off etc.

Another alternative could be to download and try out Snippy which is more flexible and lets you draw round the bits you want.

my dd was using works and publisher and pc is not on network to colour printer, my mac is. wanted to do a kind of quick pdf / screen grab / picture view type thing of her file to then email to myself and then print out from my mac to colour, very long winded i know.

Dont know how to print to file and save a pdf file from works or publisher. I have download a trial copy - extension of a pdf maker which works ok for now, but it only appears in works, not publisher.
