MATB1 - when should I get it???

and when should I give it to my employer by??

Wasn't sure whether to stick this in Pregnancy or Employment as it covers both LOL.

I'm now 21 weeks pg, and I'm trying to get my Maternity leave/annual leave sorted with work - obviously they need/want my MATB1 to get it sorted properly. Rang the Dr.s today and asked and was told they don't issue it until I'm 28 weeks pg! That seems awfully late to me - I thought I had to tell my employer sooner than that - and what if the baby is premature and my maternity leave is forced to start early - then I'd be without any money until they got it sorted??

can anyone one enlighten me

  1. When my employer should have the MATB1 by
  2. When I should be given it!

I was going to say that I didn't think I'd got mine until I was about 28wks.

from wht i remember its 11 weeks before your due date the mw is supposed to give it to you, and you just hand it to the hr dept at your work

11 weeks before!!! - see I read somewhere online today that it was changed so that it can be issued after 20 weeks pg.

I'm also desperate to get my annual leave sorted out (taking it before Maternity leave) and my manager is reluctant to do so until she has the MATB1 - don't really have a "HR" department - there's the pay office (a 2 person job) and that's it LOL.

oh and the people that do the pay etc aren't based where I work - so it needs to be faxed to them.........and my manager isn't very good at getting things sorted quickly [frown]

There is nothing to stop you writing to your employer/HR about your intended ML/holiday etc
Then send the MATB1 when you get it

I think you have to tell your employer no later than the end of the fifteenth week before the expected week of childbirth (according to DTI website)

I've already submitted my AL form, and have told her verbally when I intend to go on ML. I guess I'll have to put it in writing and hope she signs my AL form off - she's completely clueless about these things.........so I hope she isn't awkward.

I was told from 20 weeks now (24week check tomorrow and I'm picking it up then). See here

Just make sure your employer has your intentions in writing and keep bugging your midwife/GP.

20 wks onwards for MATB1 to be issued. The employer needs it in order to be able to reclaim the SMP and for nothing else. 4 - 6 weeks before you intend to start maternity leave is sufficient to hand in the matb1. the latest day you can start mat leave is the sunday before your EDC, though it will kick in automatically if baby arrives early.
