Planning bedrooms for 7+ boys

I am planning to move my ds into his own room in the next few months and am starting to think about what he will need in there and also plan ahead a bit.

He's been sharing with his younger sister for the last four years.

I have a couple of specific questions:

  • what age do children need space (ie a desk) to do homework? I have no idea when proper homework starts but am assuming for the next few years he'll do it at the kitchen table as he'll need some help from us.
  • I am looking at storage have no idea what sort of storage is useful for a 9 or 10 year old who is probably not storing anything like the amount of toys my ds has had, but probably has other stuff! Any advice would be welcomed.

For a moment there I thought you had 7 boys!

Snap mimmypig, and I was curious to get hints on how to cram children in!

ds has had homework for a few years but worked more independently since Year 3. We have Ikea Trofast storage - you can get shelves or plastic trays/boxes for bits like Playmobil, Lego and Magnetix

Thanks for that Liz - any more thoughts?
