new(ish) mobile phone, can't work it! Should be simple!

It's pathetic, i know. HAd the phone for ages, couldn't be bothered to read instruction book, carried it around in bag for months, meaning to read it. Now the phone tells me the text inbox is practically full. Action needed and can i find the book? I'm a technophobe It's a Motorola V220 clamshell. Can any of you advise? Please?

Hmmm, here is the instructions but it doesn say how to delete text.

If you go into 'messages' and then 'message inbox'there should be an 'options' button (I think on the right) and this should give you a menu, of which one of the options is delete...but TBH I can't really remember v clearly!
