WARNING ABOUT GRUMPY BUT GORGEOUS PAMPER PARTIES

Do not trust this business or hand over money under any circumstances. We booked them to do a pamper party for my daughters 8th birthday and paid them a 50% deposit. We also paid extra for the convenience of party bags. The party was booked for today (11 June 2016). Late yesterday afternoon my wife receives a phone call informing her that she will not be getting party bags (despite the fact that we had already paid for them). This caused unnecessary and unexpected stress as we had to run around the night before trying to sort out more party bags. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of one of the most unprofessional and distressing experiences a parent (and child) could have. Despite being informed that two therapists would attend the party (for 12 girls) only one arrives at the venue. One therapist (artiste) can clearly not pamper 12 girls on her own so we immediately became a little suspicious. 30 minutes before the party was due to begin the 'grumpy but gorgeous' representative came in and informed us that the party was not going ahead as the venue was 'unsuitable'. The reasons given for this were 'parking' and the fact that she had to climb a short flight of stairs (around 15 stairs altogether). She also mumbled something about insufficient 'plug points'. Her reasons were absolutely ludicrous. We had hired first floor rooms in the Windlesham church building which based in a small village. The parking could not have been easier or more convenient. There was ample parking within 25 meters of the front door. Furthermore, she was literally able to drive and even park her car within 2 meters the front door for the purposes of loading/unloading any equipment (which my wife and I also offered to do for her) if she had wanted to. There were also at least 14 plug points in the venue. It soon became clear that she had never intended to do the party (she even had a male passenger waiting for her in her car). The 'Grumpy but Gorgeous Pamper Party' did not go ahead and we were all left extremely distressed by the whole incident. Fortunately, a group of mums jumped into action. While one of the mothers entertained the kids 'Brownies' style the others rushed off and purchased pampering products and equipment. The kids ended up being pampered 'mummy style' and giving each other beauty treatments. They had a ball doing it. We are so grateful to the mothers that helped out. Thank you so much. It is nice to know that the world is still full of such genuine, kind and wonderful people.

We need to ensure that no other parents or children fall victim to this unscrupulous business.

Since being scammed I have been doing more research on this business. See below:

UPDATE 1: I draw your attention to the following link with the heading (Pamper party scam - grumpy but gorgeous) which appears to indicate a dubious history behind the Grumpy But Gorgeous pamper party provider (forums.moneysavingexpert…)

UPDATE 2: The more I dig around the more information I find. I have now also ascertained the 'Grumpy But Gorgeous' appeared on RIP OFF BRITAIN (series 6 Episode 8) in 2014. There is also a Facebook group called 'Grumpy but Gorgeous Girls Pamper Parties Scam' of people who have been scammed over the past few years.

UPDATE 3: She is refusing to refund us unless we delete the reviews. There is no way I am deleting a genuine, accurate review.

Thanks for ensuring I never book anything with you. And also reported your post where you outed a former employee. Most unprofessional thing I've seen in ages.

DillDongMerrilyOnHigh · 18/11/2016 14:31

Wow.

FannyWisdom · 18/11/2016 14:32

Maybe a disgruntled employee.

Oh wait we used that excuse already erm...

WanderingTrolley1 · 18/11/2016 14:36

Poor show, GBG

We'll all know who not to book on future.

ShugAvery · 18/11/2016 14:37
Shock
EmzDisco · 18/11/2016 14:39

Wow! If the bad reviews don't put you off then the incredible responses from "grumpy but gorgeous" have to, not someone I would want anywhere near a children's party. Absolutely bonkers.

Friolero · 18/11/2016 14:45

Surely these responses from GBG can't be genuine, no-one in business would be that stupid would they?! Shock

Oh man I've missed all the fun!

TupsNSups · 18/11/2016 15:40

They aren't the first by a long way

There has been a few over the years, just as bad if not worse than this.

Ilovehedgehogs · 18/11/2016 15:49

Just shows that you can't rely on trustpilot too, it must have taken ages to set up all those new accounts with no previous reviews. Still, glowing recommendations given.

Oh I'm sad I missed what grumpy and gorgeous said now.
Thanks for the heads up

GeorgeTheThird · 18/11/2016 16:21

Gosh. What an excellent idea it was to bump THIS thread. Great PR 😄

liquidrevolution · 18/11/2016 16:25

Why on earth would anyone book a firm called that for a pamper party? The mind boggles.

OpalTree · 20/11/2016 10:41

It is a strange name. It makes you think that either the kids will have a crap time at the party but be made to look pretty or that they've got a moody personality, but not to worry as looking gorgeous is more important.

Tinavaid77 · 06/12/2016 21:19

Omg, I was minutes away from booking a pamper party with GBG for my daughter's 8th birthday. She's been asking for one after having been to a friends spa party. I do not want to let her down as she has worked hard to please mummy this year! One of the mum's at school advised not to go with this company has she experienced a lack of professionalism from them and said she got a poorly structured party. After reading the reviews here, I'm not going to waste £300 good pounds on a company with such bad press. Not sure if there are any out there that offer good value and above all, quality. I live in Harrow. Help!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 06/12/2016 21:25

Oh no, I've missed all the previous posts on this thread!! How come I've failed to see them all when I practically live on frequently browse MN?

I've got a feeling those deleted replies from gbg1 would have been very amusing Grin.

hi im an ex employee of gbg and an they owe thousands in wages and money to unhappy parents these are the links. please go to trustpilot and leave a review but make sure you keep your review account active and review any places you have visited if you leave just one bad review and never use the account again they deactivate it as a false account and no honest reviews get published this was a problem for alot of people so i decided to give trustpilot a call and that's what they told me get reviewing guys and check out the links we have found and made.

Pity I missed all the comments by Grumpy But Gorgeous - Mumsnet please unblock or reinstate them! I think they deserve to be able to embarrass themselves.

ejpr · 08/02/2017 11:22

I know they delete all their bad reviews on Trustpilot. So do not trust what you see on Trustpilot. Thankfully they cannot manipulate Mumsnet!!!!

WARNING

we booked GBG for a birthday party for our dd's 11th birthday/ leaving party as dd and her friends Are going to separate secondary schools in September
With less than an hours notice till the start of the party. It was cancelled without an apology in fact Danielle had said I should be felling sorry for her as she's the one that has had to deliver the bad news to me. At this point I checked other reviews and they have done this several times

this company's is unscrupulous!!! I believe all the positive post have been posted by themselves. They operate from essentially a PO Box. I've yet to receive a refund although I've been told they are processing a refund despite the fact They have not asked for my bank account details.

I urge you all to report them to trading standard the Camden branch if you have not yet done so already. you can report them over the telephone. I have been told by trading standards that there is little they can do without complaints.

They need to be stopped I believe trading standards also have a part to play in protecting the public if they were aware of the manner in which grumpy but gorgeous conducted themselves. They should have sort criminal proceedings. After all Katie Brown is A fraudster!!! It's one thing to con me out of my money it's another to let a child down on their birthday. My daughter had been planning it for months.xxx

Kayla1919 · 06/10/2017 12:16

I have had the same problem with grumpy but gorgeous.
I booked a luxury pamper party, for the 23rd September 2017. Only to be called less than 24hrs before the party, to cancel and rearrange the party. I was so angry and upset but when told that the party host had a family grievance and had to fly out of the country, i softend and asked if it would be possible for a later time on the same day. The representative confirmed a later time and we agreed to that time.

Saturday 23rd September 8.00pm and the party host did not show and there was no phone call to confirm the host was on the way or confirm she had arrived.

I called all evening with no reply I sent an email which wasn't answered until Monday stating the representative did confirm with the host that she was on her way but yet I had 8 girls waiting and feeling very angry and disappointed that the party host did no show up.

Iwas emailed last week Thursday to confirm that a cheque for my refund of my deposit will be with me within a few days. Well I haven't received my cheque although I didn't pay her by cheque I paid by bank transfer, which is the way in which I should have received my refund. I fare I will never see my money again and would urge all parents before booking with this company to read the reviews.

It's not the first time this has happened and they company has been dissolved since 2015 check all review boards. Do not book with this company
