looks like it will be similar - windy and getting colder.

lexiemum · 18/01/2007 17:26

it'll probably be a bit colder than here but not too much - pack comfortable shoes though - can do a lot of walking

its the euro now

paulaplumpbottom · 18/01/2007 17:51

A bit colder but mostly the same. Tell to pack something that she can ride a bike in.

mysonsmummy · 18/01/2007 18:07

why ride a bike in??

I have just booked myself a luxury weekend in Amsterdam with some mates It can get really cold there and as there is a cold spell predicted for here I am defintely bringing some warm clothes. Don't mind biking, tell her to bring clothes to get stoned in

Good shoes as there's lots of cobble streets and tram lines to avoid. So high heels are not always a good idea . A raincoat would be advisable. They get ijzel there which is freezing rain and it can be very very windy. Used to live there and this time of the year it's normally cold, windy and very foggy. But it's a wonderful place to visit.

I live in Holland, about 20 kms south af A/Dam. The weather here today is crap, just like most of UK. Our road has been closed due to high winds and falling trees. Quite warm though for January - about 14 deg this afternoon and a bit rainy.

Re the bike comment, everyone in Holland rides bikes and its quite a popular touristy thing to do here - to hire a bike to see the city which is very small and pretty. Its good fun, but bring a pair of pants

We use the Euro and your neice will find that everyone (or anyone who wants to take her money!) in Amsterdam will speak English. Where is she staying? I hope she has a fab time. I'm a little old for city life now, preferring the lovely Dutch countryside, but its great for youngsters or those young at heart
