Household insurance - boring I know! Sorry!

We're insured with select and protect and it just seems to go up every five minutes at the moment. We are now paying £51 a month, which covers £52,000 contents insurance, £70,000 cost of rebuilding the house should, God forbid, it burn to the ground, and legal expenses (thats only 60p of the £51 a month!)

Does this seem reasonable to you? And do you know of any other companies that can do it cheaper, or any websites that will give us some guidance?

Thanks all, sorry to be so incredibly dull

Try Liverpool and Victoria - they were by far the chepaest for us. We now have buildings AND contents insurance with them, for less than we were paying for just buildings OR insurance!

We're with Norwich Union and they're loads cheaper than that for similar cover. Do a google for house insurance and you'll get loads of price comparisons. That's how we found ours.

We're with esure. Much cheaper. Was less than half the price of our previous insurer.

Tesco have a promotion on at the mo - believe they are quite cheap anyway.

Or you could try money supermarket .

JanZ, I went to look at L'pool and Victoria last time you recommended them and they couldn't let me in because I have pop-ups barred or something, have no idea where to unbar them, vv frustrating!

Second Liverpool Victoria, we've been with them for several years, and I've never been able to better their quote.

I tend to just get out the Yellow pages and phone up all the likely looking insurance companies to get quotes. Most have freephone numbers. We pay annually, but £51 a month for the level of cover you describe does sound quite pricey.

Also try AA, direct line, endsleigh and norwich union direct.
