Why are eBay sellers so greedy!!??

I've been noticing it for a while with different things, but today I looked for Playskool Heroes Star Wars as its limited in this country but thought I'd check eBay. The figures you can get for £6.99 in Toy's r Us etc they're selling for £20 a piece labelled "very rare!!!!". They're not rare. I barely think they're worth £6.99 but that's besides the point.

Have seen it on other stuff like I said. Why do they do this? Why so greedy? They can't possibly sell!

Sadly I think you're right. Some things though that I've searched for are pretty specific so you'd have to know what it is and the general price, yet they're being sold for more than you'd expect.

Even some items you'd see in shops quite often, like razor blades, are being sold for more than double the shop prices. You'd think people would realise then.

I occasionally sell things on eBay but it's always been lower than the rrp. Unless it's actually been a rare and/or collectable item , then it starts off low and I let bidding do the job.

I think certain toys sell out in particular areas of the country so do sometimes become rare, for a particular region, or even a particular amount of time. Sellers will often up their prices then and just leave them at that price until the demand has dropped right off again.

There was a guy selling an empty gin bottle - a naice posh one - saying it was a 'rare collectors item' charging £20.

Trouble was, not only do I have a bottle of it myself, I'd just seen a Facebook picture from the company itself showing pallets of the stuff being shipped to Waitrose for the Bank Holiday weekend.

I think some sellers are hoping that you'll misread the description.

There are people selling overpriced shit on FB and I think eBay is similar.

I bet somebody buys that empty gin bottle... probably somebody thinking its full and then complaining

I have been caught out. I have been after a larger size of hair grip for my dd, you know the snappy ones? I ordered what we're described as large and when they arrived they were just the regular tiny ones you can buy for pence. Seller had described as 'large' but I found theyhad covered their back by including measurements in small print.

A fool & her money are soon parted... if people can't be bothered to shop around, then why not charge as much as possible? Purchase is not compulsory.

Paying tax is compulsory though isn't it? Time the government took into account that sellers are really taking the profits these days and tax them accordingly.

Not really greedy though is it? Something is only worth what someone is wiling to pay for it. Just because they've asked for £20 doesn't mean they'll get it and if someone does pay that then that's up to them.

There seems to be alot of people wanting what they paid for stuff.

I know many people write "just want what i paid" as its got the tags on.

There is loads of clothing on ebay at the moment thats new with tags but its on a buy it now at the same price in the shops

Love to hear the 'what people are willing to pay for it' argument when i look at my home page and see how many overpriced items now remain unsold.

Rightly so.

buyers have wished up that sellers just got greedier and greedier, shilled their own stuff up time and time again in the initial years to make a fast buck, but now they are really getting caught out and lately if something does actually sell, you are more likely to see the very same 'sold' items being re-sold all over again by the original seller (or the exact same item being sold by a friend of theirs in the area) who has got landed with the top bid and not only had to pay the final selling fees, but had to relisted all over again.

it pays to take screenshots of anything you are interested in and the selling price to compare with when it's sold on ebay again at a later date. 👌

You may as well say boots and Holland and barrett are greedy for selling stuff available much cheaper in other shops.

There is no law against over pricing.
