I'm sure I'm being stupid but what's the glycerine for?

I'd like to make a room spray - big smelly dog and four cats here

The glycerine helps hte oils stick, but it's not oily.

Lauriefairycake -for a room spray add the oils to water with a little vodka.

Laurie, you can make a room spray by mixing the juice of a lemon (or a few drops of essential oil) with a couple of teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda, then topping it up with water in a spray bottle. It works pretty well.
