techie help re IE browser please

My ds has done something to my PC and it now won't open Internet Explorer (on dh's computer now). Connection is fine - email working. It says 'cannot find server' at the top and the message at the bottom is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL\pagerror.gif. Any ideas please???

Have you tried opening a different page, or does it do this with every page?

Yes, does it with every page. I do have anti virus but not updated since Xmas.

Are you actually getting any new email, or do you just mean you can see your inbox - because (depending on your email set up) you may be able to see your inbox offline.
Have you checked;
whatever cables (if any)connect you to the internet
If it's a wireless connection, make sure the switch isn't turned off - there may be a physical switch, or a software setting
In IE;tools - Internet options-connections -see if what's shown there corresponds with what's on your dh's pc (assuming they both connect to the internet in the same way)
