I am trying to teach DD (2)not to touch nettles, it is difficult because she sees our dog dive through them on walks and thinks it is a great game to try and follow him.

Anyone any ideas?

Let her do it once? Sorry no, that would be cruel.
Would she understand if you taught her to pick them up properly?

I think you can only reinforce that they sting people and that your dog has a fur coat. Yes, this may involve her getting stung once or twice

DS steers clear of anything he sees me being frightened of - be demonstrably cautious and over-act a bit?

No - you can pick nettles with bare hands and not get stung. You just have to grasp it very firmly so that you actually crush all the hairs which cause the sting (hence the saying "to grasp the nettle" honestly it works.

I used to make my little brother pick them and then go all nurse on him and fix him with those leaves that take the sting away - dock leaves? They usually grow next to nettles.

My DH says that too prufrock. He also says that wasps won't sting you if you don't flap at them. Sez you! is all I can say to that!
