Friend behaving in embarrasing way

I have an old friend who has lately been behaving really wierdly. He has always been quite full of himself but in a nice way and very kind person.

Recently he has started boasting unbearably about things and has become a so called expert in things that he knows nothing about. In a really sort of pompous way and he has not ever been pompous before. It is getting really embarrasing and I don't know what to do.

He is in the film business and has started claminng that people I know he has only met once or twice (famous ones) are best friends of his. He has also suddenly become world expert on for eg wine which I don't know much about but I know enought to know that you don't become an expert overnight.

It's ok when it's just me and him but when other people are around they just look at him like he's a freak and it can be really cringe making.

How can I say someting without offending him? He has been a good friend for years and I assume it's some sort of insecurity thing, he hasn't go t agirlfriend to keep in in check iykwim so it's just getting worse.

Bump , if you are good friends perhaps make it light hearted

whatdoido, tbh I wouldn't do anything. If you're his friend, carry on being his friend but if he wants to make a fool of himself, let him. I'm not sure there's much you can do about it really. Oh, just thought, could it be a newly acquired Cocaine habit? Sorry if not, just a thought.
