Is this a BT problem or an AOL one?

Each time I log on, after about 10 to 15 minutes, I get chucked out. Is this BT's fault or AOL's? Please say BT because I hate them and they have just upped my monthly DD and I would like to complain to them.

Far more likely to be AOL as it'll be their server chucking you off. I take it you are dial-up?

PS I hate AOL as much as you hate BT (I'm a web developer. You wouldn't believe the hoops we have to jump through so you lot can see our websites properly). Give them hell from me.

I hate them too. AOL is soooooo awful!!

CHANGE!

Tinker · 25/05/2004 20:14

Oh, I know I should change but it's sooooooo much hassle. It's ok after the initial chuck off. Yes, teh last peson in the UK on dial-up

switch to NTL and solve both problems! new phone line provider + new internet provider. we actually use an NTL dial-up connection , paid monthly (about£12) and never had any problems with them.

Branster · 25/05/2004 20:20

also, why not try another internet provider for a few hours (you can register on-line for a pay-as you-go deal so no need for direct debits) and see if it makes any difference. For example MSN or similar service. there must be loads out there.

I am on BT and AOL and get this problem, thats if you mean it keeps disconnecting from between 1 minute online and several hours after being online. Also, sometimes wont disconnect when I want it to. Like you, I dont know whose fault it is, but keep ringing AOL to cancel cos fed up, keep losing big emails etc, and to persuade me to keep with them, I keep getting a free month. Technical helpline from AOL give lots of things to try but problem persists. Dont care though, nice to get it free!

Cant go with NTL, dont cover my area

definetly try any other internet provider then, a pay-as you go (something like 1p/min probably) just to see if it solves the problem, then you can just choose the ISP you want , a reputable one that friends suggest. isn't the BT internet service any cheaper than AOL?

Tinker · 25/05/2004 22:25

Oh, that's a good idea about complaining to AOL and getting a free month! Must try that. TBH, have had no real probs with AOL - and I do leave this on a LOT when I'm at home. Despise BT, my actual phone line has gone dead about 3 times with them in the last year. Hmm, must think. Thanks.

I have had three or four BT faults in the last year too. Two of them took 4 days to sort out. At least they divert calls to your mobile tho

I'm having the same prob Tinker. Afraid i think it is AOL not BT.

I got on this morning, got to the MN page and lost the connection.

Sundays is the worst though, i'm forever getting kicked off.

AOL used to do that to me A Lot before we got broadband. (It still hangs sometimes, but I think it's when pesky children have been downloading enormous things.)
