Technical DVD player problem

We have an Eclipse DVD695. It's multi region and has coped with everything we've thrown at it until now. We have a copy of Angel series 3 which has Asian writing on the box which the Ebay seller assured us would "play on ALL DVD players". However, ours refuses to register that there is a disc in it. It will play other discs (UK and other regions)and the Angel discs will play on our PC DVD player.

I've found nothing helpful via Google. I did find out how to turn off something called "macrovision" via a "secret" menu but no idea what this is - made no difference anyway - and this is the only thing I found with Google. I'm now wondering if the Font of All Knowledge might have any ideas...?

Have you tried using an Asian region DVD before?

No idea! But the player is multi region.

Prob not very helpful, but dh says have you checked it is actually a dvd? If its not in english on the box, could it be some other disc instead? apparently, thre are things that are neither cd or dvd but look the same. Personally, my initial thought was dust/scratches!

It plays in our PC DVD player and a friend's (multi region) DVD. It's probably something really silly.

Thanks anyway!

I think macrovision is a form of scrambling inserted into an original recording to stop a pirate recording of it from being played back.
