can't you just shove them in the recycling bin?

Tortington · 30/12/2006 14:08

i agree - put telly on sticke m in recycling - the cards too !

foxinsocks · 30/12/2006 14:09

oh I see

you are a better mother than me

Freckle · 30/12/2006 14:09

Get them to cut them up nicely and then keep the pieces as gift tags for next year. The rest goes in the recycling.

You might think it's a faff now, but just think how grateful you will be next Christmas when you realise you've forgotten to buy gift tags.

Twiglett · 30/12/2006 14:09

of course I could .. but I would thus be failing in my duties as a .... as a ....

oh I don't know .. so many words spring to mind

I use them for gist tags too - and to stick in our advent calendar pockets. But I am as tight as a gnat's chuff, me.

foxinsocks · 30/12/2006 14:14

god, I'm going to bad mummy hell for not even contemplating any of these 101 uses for Christmas cards

I'm very impressed you can be bothered to cut them all up though

Freckle · 30/12/2006 14:15

Well, I don't. I get the children to do it.

Twiglett · 30/12/2006 14:15

mwahahahhaaa ... just roped DS in .. it will do him good .. practicing scissor skills

I'm off to grab a coffee and cake

I cut them up for gift tags too. I really like doing it - means Christmas is over for another year and I can look forward to next year's, safe in the knowledge that I will never run out of gift tags

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 30/12/2006 14:44

Good idea Twig! I'm crap, I never do 'crafts' with my kids. Unless I take them out somewhere, they entertain themselves

Although I did manage a game of Hungry Hippos for about 4 minutes the other day. God, it's boring. THey loved it but then I'm not bloody 4 am I?!

Tommy · 30/12/2006 14:47

thing is.... I bought 250 gift tags for £1 this year. I'm not so generous that I won't have some left over for next year - or indeed the next 10 years!

It's so easy to recycle things though isn't it?

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 30/12/2006 14:50

I'm just crap all round... don't do gift tags at all

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 30/12/2006 14:52

Me either flame - i was struggling a bit on xmas day at mum's trying to sort out which present belonged to which person!!

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 30/12/2006 15:00

4 types of paper... one for DD, one for DS, one for joint, and one for everyone else with their initial scribbled in a corner in small black pen

Bucketsofdynomite · 30/12/2006 16:12

If you can't be bothered with gift tags (I can't), just cut up the cards and pop in an envelope for a rainyday prittstick activity - making a Christmassy collage for next year. My kids are young enough to find a handful of Christmassy shapes hours of fun.

fullmoonfiend · 30/12/2006 16:38

my boys have just had a wail-fest cos I've taken the cards down though...

nikkie · 31/12/2006 16:44

We make gift tags too!DD1 cuts,dd2 punches holes,I tie the string/ribbon etc on.
We use the string/ribbon off otherthings too so we don't need to buy any!

anorak · 31/12/2006 16:49

Life is too short for most things if you measure everything that way.

It's important to waste time doing relaxing things sometimes

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 31/12/2006 17:00

I tear the front off & stick them in my desk & use them for shopping lists etc during the year - they are easier to find in my bag than a scrap of paper. The message bit is supposed to be saved in the front of the filing cabinet so we can remember next year who sent us cards - in fact we never remember they're there & always manage to miss someone out....

To quote Lisa Simpson: "isn't this just pointless busy work?"
