I saw the thread title and thought 'ooh my dog is absolutely obsessed with pine cones - we could join in research', but i suspect that's not what you're talking about.

I got quite excited... I used to love collecting them for Xmas and spraying them gold.... At least its not a bloody Brexit thread!!

youngest we can't do that, as the dog would eat then and then vom/crap gold paint everywhere. There's a tree near us that has gorgeous giant pine cones; they, along with normal ones, would look brilliant in our insect hotel/wildlife stack, but we can't because the dog would steal them/whine and bark constantly at them.
