How do you stretch shoes?

well boots really .. they're leather . .but they're Wrangler heavy .. so kind of like hiking boots

I swear they fit me in the shop .. but I'm getting bad heel blisters

are there any proven methods of stretching them out a little?

Stuff them with wads of newspaper...but you have to pack it in really tight.

i stretched a pair of shoes with a damp tea towel i poured boiling water over it waited a bit till it cooled and stuffed it into my shoes. don't know if the heat off it helped expand the leather or not but it certainly streched the heels where they blistered, my gran always stuffed her shoes with newspaper to stretch hers

Leave them in a warm place {airing cupboard} for as long as possible... a day or two at least.

they are now stuffed with newspaper (the Grauniad dontcha know) and sitting on the radiator .. I hope that'll do as we don't have an airing cupboard
