...we have four hens and a coop being delivered tomorrow morning!
Very very excited. Have been reading chicken books avidly (thank you Soupy!). Will of course do a full thread when the first omelette is cooked.

So..... names please?

Countess Dracula would be a GREAT name for a chicken

(pph you are such an earth mother lol!)

oliveoil · 19/05/2004 10:13

What about that film Chicken Run (??), did the chicks on there have any names? I remember Mel Gibson did the voice for one of them.

Frenchgirl · 19/05/2004 10:14

oliveoil · 19/05/2004 10:16

Frenchgirl · 19/05/2004 10:17

poule au pot, poulet roti, poulet basquaise, coq au vin?

CountessDracula · 19/05/2004 10:18

I had a bantam called Penny once. You would make me v happy if there was a Penny Mark II

princesspeahead · 19/05/2004 10:19

I'm not going to EAT them! Just their eggs. Mind you, I am rather taken by Paxo. Or Sage? A friend of mine had a sheep called Rosemary once, which I thought was rather black of her.

Sadly not, I was 4 at the time! A friend of mine used to keep chickens in his garden in Hammersmith. I'm afraid I have no personal chook knowledge myself though other than they are feathery, poo a lot and lay eggs.

Soupy! You have to have Chicken Soupy

gingerbear · 19/05/2004 10:22

Dipper and Nugget have a certain ring to them....

My friends bantems are called Slut and Jezebel!!!

bunnyrabbit · 19/05/2004 10:26

Wow PPH..

What about Tom and Barbera?

BR
PS. If nobody gets this I will feel very old!!

princesspeahead · 19/05/2004 17:12

lol bunny, of course I get it. but I sincerely hope I don't get a tom in my consignment - too noisy and a bit useless on the old egg front...

chicken soupy does have a certain je ne sais quoi...

I shall suggest all of these to my children who, obviously, have last say. be prepared for them all to be named after their best friends. so that will be kirsty, jenna, victoria and rebecca then....

now, who is going to tell me how to post photos on the internet so you can see them in all their feathered glory tomorrow?!

Apparently everyone calls their chicken Tom & Barbara!!!! I read an article in a mag a few days ago about a couple that were trying out chickens and a coop. They shit everywhere like mad apparently! Anyway, I'm sure the omlettes etc will more than make up for it.

I like the dark names, like Paxo etc.

Some more for you -
Bread sauce (as in great with!)
Drumstick
Gravy
Soup
Stew
Sandwich
(oh you catch my drift!)
Licken (as in chicken licken)
Shed (as in chicken Shed Theatre)

or

Beyonce
J Lo
Mariah
Whitney
Britney
Christina
and so on!

Miaow
Woof
oink
Moo !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry i'm losing it now! Thought those might appeal to your kids!

SoupDragon · 19/05/2004 18:56

You can't let your children have the last say in something as naming the chickens

SoupDragon · 19/05/2004 18:57

Can't you let them choose one each and have the last as a Mumsnet Chicken? Obviously DS2 is going to struggle to articulate his choice.

coddycodcod · 19/05/2004 19:01

wowowowowowowowo!

coddycodcod · 19/05/2004 19:02

Michelle - au naturel!

coddycodcod · 19/05/2004 19:03

I think we need a new thread on naming - this is too hidden away
