Computer crackling at night and waking us up

Has anyone experienced noise from a computer when it is switched off? Ours is in our bedroom and makes a noise like TV interference every so often at night (but not every night). Had visions of it going up in flames last night. Any ideas?

Yes sounds like very loud static. Can it be stopped?

yes

turn it off FULLY with the switch at the back of the computer

then hold down the button that you normally use to turn it on and off for aobut 30 secs

this shoudl discharge the static.

Will try that. They're playing your song on Classic FM at the moment Enid (In the Deep Midwinter).

Never heard of this happening before. Has it got speakers attached? It may be they're picking up interference, rather than the computer itself.

Surely it's the screen not the computer ?

Turn it all off at the wall. The screen may be on standby which is why it hums.
