might be a daft question but do your kids keep the lego all jumbled up in a big box or do you keep each kit/set seperate ?

All in big box but we do keep the instructions for each kit in case they feel the urge to build it again, never do, they buld loads of other stuff instead.

lucykate · 10/12/2006 21:31

all jumbled up together. not a daft question at all, i think the natural way to want to store it as a parent is to keep it all seperate but space wise its not always practical to do so.

as a kid, mine was all chucked into the bucket that my mum used to use to soak our nappies in, the fun part was tipping it all out on the floor. took me a while to twig that it was easier to put away if you tipped it out onto an old sheet.

cheeryface · 10/12/2006 21:34

o.k thanx, so, would i be best buying a box or bucket or two of the stuff or different kits i.e helicopters, cars and the like??

Just wear heavy jackboots when tidying it up.

Lego + bare foot = the Worst Pain In The World.

winterpimms · 10/12/2006 21:42

All kept separate here in large freezer bags with instructions inside! Then put in boxes with lids (and put in the loft, one down at a time )

Skribble · 10/12/2006 21:46

I am trying to find a UK supplier of this Lego sorting box.

You shake it and the lego sorts out according to size as it fallls through the different size grids.

Skribble · 10/12/2006 21:48

Sorry this box

roisin · 10/12/2006 21:56

Skribble - I've seen it in a UK catalogue, GLTC I think.

But I've also heard it's rubbish. The box is quite small, and can only cope with a fairly small amount of Lego, that you could sort properly by hand dead quick anyway.

And in any case who wants to sort Lego by size? That's no particular use.

Skribble · 10/12/2006 21:57

Oh I know I just like to pretend I am orgainised, but in reality it will be spread accross the floor and formed into various unrecognisable models dotted about around the house.

roisin · 10/12/2006 21:58

Can't find it on GLTC now though.

I actually enjoy sorting Lego
But we've got far too much of the stuff for even me to sort now!

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 10/12/2006 22:02

Weve got one of those cases with seperate compartments that you use for storing small DIY stuff . Works for us

Skribble · 10/12/2006 22:29

Serious storage .

TwoIfBySanta · 10/12/2006 22:40

Or you could try and be creative! Just ask Ty to come visit.

There is also this idea which might be easier to do!

dmo · 10/12/2006 23:04

wakeup - I did that with my DDs beads, sequins and tiny bits for craft. Lovely with lots of little compartments, all diff shades, shapes and colours separate. Appealed to my OTT anal side!!
However, after a fun few afternoons with DDs happily sorting them through...DD2 find them so fiddly to get out tidily, they are all in a big colourful jumble, each little comaprtment the same as the next - technocoloured assortment!! Life is too short to worry about compartmentalising everything I have decided
